Summary
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A potential starters include Snivy, Torchic, and Piplup, according to fan theories.
- The theories are based on their connection to the French theme of the Kalos region where Z-A is set, and a potential clue from a Scarlet and Violet DLC trailer.
- Fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation, which may come during upcoming Nintendo Direct or Pokemon Presents events later this year.
According to the leading theory online, Pokemon Legends: Z-A's starter Pokemon will potentially be Snivy, Torchic, and Piplup. There aren't many details for Pokemon Legends: Z-A yet, but fans can safely assume that it will be retaining some of the defining traits of its predecessor, the critically-acclaimed Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
As Pokemon fans will recall, Pokemon Legends: Arceus broke a main series tradition by not introducing three brand-new starter Pokemon. Instead, Pokemon Legends: Arceus starters were pulled from three different generations of games. Pokemon Legends: Arceus players are given the chance to choose from Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott at the start of the game, and fans assume Pokemon Legends: Z-A will carry on that tradition by offering three starters from three different generations.
Pokemon Legends Z-A: Why Zygarde Deserves the Spotlight
Pokemon X and Y focused on Xerneas and Yveltal, so Zygarde stayed mysterious, but the new Legends title can finally give this guardian time to shine.
It should be stressed that the Pokemon Legends: Z-A starters have not actually been announced at the time of this writing, but the leading theory is that they will be Snivy, Torchic, and Piplup. As pointed out by GamesRadar, this theory has been formed for two reasons. For one, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC trailer showcased the Arceus starters alongside Snivy, Torchic, and Piplup, and secondly, that trio of Pokemon all potentially fit the French theme of the Kalos region, where Z-A is set.
Rumored Pokemon Legends: Z-A Starters
- Snivy
- Torchic
- Piplup
Snivy evolves into Serperior, who is inspired by French nobility; Torchic evolves into Blaziken, who is inspired by roosters, France's national animal; and finally, Piplup evolves into Empoleon, named after Napoleon Bonaparte. Now, all of this could just be a coincidence, so fans should keep that in mind. However, it does seem that Snivy, Torchic, and Piplup would make the most sense as the starters for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, considering their connections with France.
Pokemon fans will have to wait for an official announcement to be sure, and it's unclear exactly when such a reveal will take place. We know that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is releasing in 2025, and there will likely be at least two more big Nintendo Direct events this year. One has to imagine that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will make an appearance at said events, and so it's likely that the starters will be revealed whenever they take place. Nintendo Direct events tend to happen in the summer and fall, but it's also possible Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be shown as part of a Pokemon Presents instead.
There are many unanswered Pokemon Legends: Z-A questions, but details should come to light in the months ahead. Until then, fans can continue picking apart the announcement trailer for clues.
