Pokemon Legends: Z-A will include a handy feature that makes managing Pokemon moves much simpler than a lot of previous games in the franchise. There are multiple ways that the little monsters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be able to learn or relearn moves, and a new leak shows that they'll be managed from one menu screen.
Technical Machines, usually abbreviated as TMs in Pokemon games, have been a part of Pokemon's history since the original pair of games was released in the mid 1990s. A game mechanic that allows members of specific Pokemon species the chance to learn moves that they wouldn't normally discover through leveling up, TMs and their more restrictive cousins, HMs, were not included in 2022's Pokemon Legends: Arceus, instead being replaced by a character who could teach moves to players' Pokemon.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A's New Battle Mechanic is One Step Closer to an Anime Meme
A brand-new real-time battle system is coming to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and it casts a long-running trend in the anime in a much different light.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Will Make Managing Moves Easier
It sounds like TMs will be returning for the second game in the Pokemon Legends spin-off series, however, and the development team at Game Freak looks to have a player-friendly plan that will make managing the learning of new moves much easier. According to a Twitter post by Centro Leaks, a quality-of-life feature that will be included in the upcoming game will allow players to manage moves learned by TM and relearned moves from a single menu screen. This change of pace seems intended to remove some of the tedium of scrolling through long item lists to kit out Pokemon with the best possible moves, letting players more quickly get back to roaming the Lumiose City map and engaging in Pokemon battles.
The introduction of TMs into the Pokemon Legends series has led to a few questions, one of which is how many times players will be able to use them. In the mainline series, TMs were single-use items throughout the games' first four generations before switching to an infinite-use format in Pokemon Black and White, but many players were confused in 2022 when Pokemon Scarlet and Violet switched TMs back to being single-use items. While that format is still the current standard for the mainline series, Centro Leaks reports that each TM in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will come with an unlimited number of uses.
The reveal still leaves some questions unanswered about move management in the upcoming game, especially taking into account the number of classic moves that behave differently in Pokemon Legends: Arceus than in other games. There is still a while to wait before the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A on October 16, and more reveals about Pokemon moves and how players will manage them are likely to surface as the release date approaches.
