There are hundreds of pokemon to catch in Pokemon Legends Z-A, including some returning fan-favorites from over the years. Based in the Kalos region in the city of Lumiose, players will find many pokemon from the X+Y games in Pokemon Legends Z-A, like the Psi pokemon
Abra.
How to Get a Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A
The Master Ball is capable of catching any Pokemon without fail – to get a Master Ball, Pokemon Legends Z-A players must do research for Mable.
Abra has some unique quirks – in addition to being one of the few pokemon that you can only reach its final evolution through trade, Abra is also difficult to catch because it teleports away at the first sign of danger (or trainers). This guide explains where to find Abra in Pokémon Legends Z-A, how to catch Abra, and what you must do to evolve Kadabra into Alakazam.
How to Find Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Where is Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A?
Abra can be found in a few locations throughout Pokemon Legends Z-A, but particularly on the top of rooftops across Lumiose City. Getting an Abra early is great because you can quickly evolve it into Kadabra and then Alakazam, which is one of the most iconic (and powerful) psychic pokemon.
To get an Abra early, head to either Wild Zone 1 at the start of the game, or climb onto the rooftops in Wild Zone 5 later on:
- In Wild Zone 1, enter the zone and make your way to the area across the small pond from the lone Pichu. You will see a ladder blocked by boulders. Get a pokemon with Rock Smash to break the boulders, then climb up the ladder and go to the right. Climb upward, and you should see an Abra on the rooftop just to the north.
- In Wild Zone 5, enter the zone from the central plaza and immediately turn left, then look for a ladder that leads to the rooftops of Wild Zone 5. There are numerous Abra here, spread across the various buildings within the zone, giving you multiple chances to get an Abra.
How to Catch Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Stay Out Of Sight & Take It By Surprise
In previous Pokemon games, Abra would teleport away almost as soon as the turn-based combat began, unless you used moves that restricted its ability to teleport away (like Drowsy). The method to catch an Abra in Pokemon Legends Z-A is essentially the same once you get into battle – to stop it from teleporting away, you must use CC moves that prevent it from taking actions or instantly defeat it.
In Pokemon Legends Z-A, pokemon do not automatically faint and disappear after defeat. Instead, it will remain dazed for a brief window of time before disappearing, during which you can throw a Poke Ball at it.
But before you get into battle, you risk the chance of startling an Abra by approaching too fast – it doesn't like being seen by trainers, but it doesn't appear to mind being seen by fellow pokemon.
As soon as you see an Abra, crouch down by pressing in the left analog stick (L↓), and get behind something to avoid its sight. You can also sneak up behind the Abra, but be certain that you are crouching because you can still startle it if you get too close without sneaking.
Target the Abra with either a pokemon's CC effect (like Paralyze or Frozen), or use an attack that it is weak against to instantly defeat it. If Abra gets a turn, it will try to flee, so you must initiate combat with a powerful move or an impairing status effect.
If you have a Great Ball or any stronger Poke Ball, you can skip combat altogether. Crouch down, get close enough to the Abra to target it with your throw without entering its line of sight, and you should be able to snag it before it teleports away. You can use a regular Poke Ball, too, but it is not as likely to instantly catch the Abra as a Great Ball or better.
How to Evolve Kadabra in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Abra Levels Into Kadabra, Kadabra Trades into Alakazam
Abra will gain the chance to evolve into Kadabra when it reaches Level 16. Most pokemon with a third evolution must be leveled to another threshold, usually in the mid to high 30s, to evolve into their final form. Some pokemon require you to give it a special Evolution Stone or trade it to another player to trigger its final evolution.
Kadabra is of this latter variety.
To evolve Kadabra into Alakazam, you must trade it to another player. As soon as Abra reaches Level 16 and evolves into Kadabra, it can undergo this final transformation.
-
To trade with other players, open up Link Play from the main menu (X), then select Link Trade.
- If you have a friend on the same network who is willing to trade with you, select the Local option.
- If you will be trading your Kadabra with someone on a different network, select the Far Away option.
- Enter any 8-digit numerical code and share it with your trade partner. Have them input the same code, using the same options, and you should connect.
Select Kadabra (or have the other player trade their Kadabra to you), and it will automatically evolve into
Alakazam upon being given to the receiving player. If you traded your Kadabra to the other player and want it back, you'll have to initiate another trade.
