Present in almost every game in the Pokemon series, the legendary Master Ball returns in Pokemon Legends Z-A. It is always an exceptionally rare Poke Ball in every iteration, and as one might expect, it can take a long time to get a Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
How to Fast Travel in Pokemon Legends Z-A
To unlock and use fast travel, Pokemon Legends Z-A players must reach a certain progression milestone in the story first.
Additionally, there may only be one Pokemon Legends Z-A Master Ball, making it all the more important to think carefully about what to use it on. This guide explains how to get the Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A and offers some tips to keep in mind when considering what to use your Master Ball on.
What Does The Master Ball Do in Pokemon Legends Z-A?
Like in previous Pokemon games, the Master Ball is the only Poke Ball in the game that guarantees you will catch a target pokemon – no chance for resistance, and no chance for failure. It is the most powerful Poke Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A and in every other Pokemon game it appears in – but it is also the rarest.
Ideally, wait to use the Master Ball until you find a legendary pokemon that would otherwise be extremely difficult to catch. If the one you can acquire from Mable's Research rewards is the only Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A, you will only have one opportunity for a guaranteed catch in the whole game – so use it wisely!
How to Get A Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A
To get the Master Ball, Pokemon Legends Z-A players must almost completely finish the reward track for Mable's Research Rewards. During Mission 3, you will meet Mable for the first time after you complete her request to catch 5 Pokemon.
Here, she will introduce you to the Mable's Research Rewards program, which rewards trainers with TMs, special items, and of course, a Master Ball as they increase their Research Level. To increase your Research Level, you must complete Research Tasks for Mable, which can be viewed in the main party menu.
To get a Master Ball, Pokemon Legends Z-A players must reach Research Level 49, the second-to-last rank of the Research Level reward track. Once you reach Rank 49, talk to Mable to get your Master Ball!
It will take you many, many Research Tasks to reach this penultimate rank, but if you prioritize Research Tasks as you adventure through Lumiose City, you will be able to get a Master Ball sooner.
So far, this is the only known method to get Master Balls in Pokemon Legends Z-A. As we continue to explore Lumiose City, this guide will be updated with additional ways to get a Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A – if any exist.
