A popular returning mechanic, given new life in Pokemon Legends Z-A, is the Mega Evolution system. First introduced in X+Y, Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends Z-A gives some pokemon a final enhanced Mega form and stronger moves. Mega Evolution only lasts temporarily, though, and your pokemon will return to its normal state when it runs out.
How to Get a Master Ball in Pokemon Legends Z-A
The Master Ball is capable of catching any Pokemon without fail – to get a Master Ball, Pokemon Legends Z-A players must do research for Mable.
To mega evolve pokemon, Pokemon Legends Z-A players must do two things: get a Mega Ring, and give a pokemon its associated Mega Stone to hold. Follow this guide to learn where to get the Mega Ring in Pokemon Legends Z-A, how to evolve mega pokemon, and what Mega Shards can be used for.
How to Get the Mega Ring in Pokemon Legends Z-A
To get the Mega Ring, you must progress through the main story until you reach Main Mission 9: Chase The Mysterious Pokemon. After reaching Rank V, you will automatically start this mission as a Zygarde appears outside of Hotel Z. Follow the Zygarde until a cutscene plays wherein you are teleported to the roof.
Here, you'll encounter an Absol about to go through a Rogue Mega Evolution. Normally, Mega Evolutions can only occur when a Pokemon and Trainer work together, but as of late, Lumiose City has been beset by random wild pokemon Mega Evolving without a trainer.
AZ will appear below and lend you his Lucario and his Mega Ring. Complete the battle and Mission 9, and not only will you get to keep the Mega Ring, allowing you to harness the power of Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends Z- A, but Absol will also join your party.
How to Evolve Mega Pokemon in Legends Z-A
After completing Mission 9, you will automatically start Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution upon returning to Hotel Z. This mission introduces players to the basics of how Mega Evolutions work in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
Essentially, only certain pokemon can use Mega Evolution, and only if they are holding their unique Mega Stone.
You will be given the Absolite item when
Absol joins your party, but Absol isn't automatically holding it. Early in Mission 10, Taunie/Urbain will challenge you to a fight and explain how to Give an item to a pokemon to hold – give Absol the Absolite, then start the fight.
As long as your pokemon is holding its Mega Stone, it will be able to Mega Evolve. As the battle continues your Mega Evolution gauge will continuously build - when it reaches max, press in the right analog stick (R↓) to Mega Evolve your pokemon temporarily.
Your pokemon will gain a new form, enhanced versions of its existing moves, and generally become significantly harder to defeat. It doesn't last forever, though. When the meter runs out, your pokemon will revert back to normal. Let the gauge build up again to make your pokemon Mega Evolve in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
What Are Mega Shards Used For?
In Pokemon Legends Z-A, Mega Shards and Mega Stones serve very different purposes (despite the similar names). While Mega Stones are items you can give to a pokemon to hold to enable Mega Evolution, Pokemon Legends Z-A's Mega Shards are a currency that can be used to purchase these Mega Stones.
After completing Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution, you will be able to spend your Mega Shards at Quasartico Inc. To purchase Mega Stones and XP Candy.
You must defeat the CEO to access the Quasartico Mega Stone vendor, and though there aren't many options at first, you will unlock more Mega Stones in Pokemon Legends Z-A as you continue to progress through the main story.
