A recent massive leak of Pokemon- related content included information about upcoming main series Pokemon games, future spinoffs in the Legends subseries and more. Dubbed the "Teraleak 2" due to the amount of information revealed, it preceded the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A by only a few days. Now that Legends: Z-A is out, a series of hints and Easter eggs in the game seemingly confirm Teraleak 2's information regarding the next Legends title.
According To The Teraleak, Legends 3 Is Set In Galar
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the second game in the Legends subseries and takes place in modern-day Lumiose City in the Kalos region. It follows 2022's Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which was set in the distant past, when the Sinnoh region was known as Hisui. The Teraleak 2 states that the third Legends game will be set in the past like Arceus — specifically in the Galar region, the England-inspired setting of Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The leak included a few additional facts about the next Legends title:
- It will take place 1000 years before the events of Sword and Shield.
- It focuses around "giant swarms" of Pokemon, something fans have theorized may be connected to Generation 8's multiplayer raids.
- The story will involve the creation of the first Gigantamax PokeBall.
- A leaked image hints that the curry cooking mechanic will return in some form.
Repeated Galar References In Legends: Z-A May Confirm The Teraleak's Information
The leak's information seemingly indicates that the third Pokemon Legends game is still early in development, and its story and setting are subject to change. The same leak features concept art of an early version of Legends Z-A set in the Johto region before it was changed to Kalos, and the same thing could absolutely happen to "Legends 3." However, there are a number of references to the Galar region scattered throughout Legends Z-A that could hint towards its appearance in the next Legends title.
Most of the references to the Galar region in Legends: Z-A come from dialogue with NPCs located around Lumiose City. One references Galar Champion Leon coming to Lumiose and getting lost almost immediately — although talented at Pokemon battling, Leon infamously entirely lacked a sense of direction. Another mentioned watching a battle between Leon and Raihan, the Dragon-type Gym leader from Pokemon Sword and Shield.
However, perhaps the most direct piece of evidence pointing at the Galar region as the setting for "Legends 3" comes from a conversation between two backpackers hanging out on a street corner in Lumiose City. When interacted with, one of the pair notes that the Galar region is their "next destination," and that they are specifically interested in trying out Dynamaxing their Pokemon while there. The usage of the phrase "next destination" definitely seems like a clue to the games heading to Galar in the next installment.
"For our next destination, how about heading to Galar to do some Dynamaxing?"
Another major hint is the prevalence of curry in Pokemon Legends Z-A. The player character's friend and sometimes rival, Urbain/Taunie, cooks a special dish known as "croissant curry" to celebrate the protagonist winning Z-A Royale matches. The curry is specifically noted to come from Galar, and the dish appears frequently and is a common topic of discussion, with Team MZ members Lida and Naveen debating whether it is delicious or strange.
Other smaller Galar references include Z-A Royale opponent Zach wearing Boltund-brand clothing, the Lumioise Museum noting that Kalos Elite Four member Wikstrom's armor may have come from Galar, and decorations around the city referencing Galarian Weezing and Copperajah. Add that to the several Galar references scattered around Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and it seems like the Teraleak's reveal that Legends is heading to Generation 8's region is indeed true.
