Tyrunt is a Rock/Dragon-type fossil Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that evolves into Tyrantrum, one of the strongest attackers in the game. The only way to get Tyrunt, however, is through the fossil revival process, which is locked behind main story progression in PLZA and isn’t available right from the get-go.

Additionally, evolving Tyrunt into Tyrantrum requires some special conditions to be met, meaning players who want to add the fearsome ancient dragon to their team will need to know the prerequisites. This guide covers how to restore Tyrunt from a fossil as well as how to evolve it into Tyrantrum.

How to Get Tyrunt in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Tyrunt Fossil Location

Tyrunt can be obtained by restoring the Jaw Fossil at the Laboratory on the second floor of the Pokemon Research Lab, which is located in the southern part of Lumiose City in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

The Jaw Fossil can be purchased from the Stone Emporium for 20,000 Poke Dollars. The Stone Emporium is found on Vernal Avenue, just south of the Pokemon Center (pictured above).

It’s important to note, however, that the Fossil Restoration mechanic in PLZA only unlocks after players have completed Side Mission 27: Restored from a Fossil at the Pokemon Research Lab. This mission becomes available after trainers have completed Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution and reached Ranked F by defeating Vinnie in a Z-A Royale Promotion Match.

In Side Mission 27, a researcher on the Laboratory’s 2nd floor gives players 20,000 Poke Dollars and tasks them with purchasing a fossil from the Stone Emporium. The Jaw Fossil turns into Tyrunt, whereas the Sail Fossil turns into Amaura. Once the Lab researcher restores the fossil, he will give the revived ancient Pokemon to the player for free.

Any additional fossil Pokemon players want to restore will require purchasing the corresponding fossil from the Stone Emporium and bringing it to the researcher on the second floor of the Pokemon Research Lab.

How to Evolve Tyrunt in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Tyrunt Evolution Level

Tyrunt can evolve into Tyrantrum at level 39 during the day. Players can switch between day and night by resting at any bench in Lumiose City or by sleeping in their bed in Hotel AZ.

When Tyrunt is at level 39 or above and it is daytime, place it in the main party, and the evolution prompt will appear on its portrait in the pause menu. Press A while Tyrunt is selected and choose “Evolve” in order to evolve it into Tyrantrum.

To increase Tyrunt’s level to 39 quickly, either feed it EXP. Candies and Rare Candies, or give it a Lucky Egg to hold, which doubles the amount of experience it earns from battles.
