Among the very first obstacles players will face in Pokemon Legends: Z-A are large gray boulders blocking roads, alleyways, and secret paths. It is possible to break these rocks to open up these paths and discover the locations behind them.
In fact, smashing these rocks apart is required to progress the main story in the game, but players may find themselves confused on how to do so as the process is somewhat different from the mainline Pokemon games.
How to Pass Time and Make it Dark in Pokemon Legends Z-A
There's an easy way to change the time, but you need to play a few hours of the story first.
How to Break Boulders in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, breakable boulders can be destroyed using any high impact physical move like Rock Smash, Rollout, Iron Tail, and others. The very first move that players obtain that qualify for this criteria is Rock Smash. To use it, players will first need to find and catch a Pokemon that can learn Rock Smash via level up or by using a TM.

An excellent contender for an early game Rock Smash user is Bunnebly, a Pokemon found right at the start of the game in Wild Area 1.
How to Get Rock Smash in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Players will acquire the Rock Smash TM during the tutorial. After you learn how to catch Pokemon in Wild Area 1, Taunie will ask you to catch 5 Pokemon of different species from the area to complete the quest “A New Life in Lumiose City.” There are only five Pokemon species in total in Wild Area 1 at the beginning of the game, and one of them is Bunnelby.
After you catch all five, you’ll be directed towards the Pokemon Research Lab, where you’ll meet Mable. Mable will ask you to assist her in research in return for rewards, and the very first prize you’ll be given for helping her with the Wild Area 1 survey is the Technical Machine for Rock Smash.
None of the starter Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A can learn Rock Smash.
