With just a little over two weeks to go until the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the hype for all the possible remaining Mega Evolutions is through the roof, though Nintendo did right by fans with its showcase of Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja. More Mega Evolutions for Gen 6 critters were more than warranted, and it would have been a crime not to give one to the starters from Pokemon X and Y after the backlash from fans all those years ago. Pokemon Legends: Z-A's leaked Mega Evolutions are all basically confirmed and have been since Mega Dragonite's reveal, but as customary, The Pokemon Company has not revealed the Mega Evolutions for the three starters.

This is a trend that has been going on for years now, and the latest games in the franchise, like Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, also kept new forms or the final evolutions for starters a secret before launch.

Considering that the game reportedly includes no new critters or forms, it's nice to see some love for Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig as the starters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, though their Megas remain half a mystery for now. There are descriptions of PLZA's Mega Feraligatr and Meganium online, with the latter being partly shown in a blurred screenshot, and they both get a new type in the process. Mega Emboar is not in the same boat, and it may end up being a bit disappointing.

These Leaked Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions Are the Most Likely to Get a Type Change

Pokemon often gain or lose a type during Mega Evolution, and some of the leaked new forms for Pokemon Legends: Z-A could follow this trend.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Emboar May Be a Mixed Bag

Based on the leaks, which have all been proven correct so far, Mega Meganium is Grass/Fairy, Mega Feraligatr is Water/Dragon, and Mega Emboar is Fire/Fighting. This is the exact same typing for the regular Emboar, and it doesn't do the critter many favors because it's mostly supereffective against types that are among the weakest in the series.

What follows is that, while it has decent defensive capabilities, Mega Emboar doesn't really pack a punch offensively with its STAB Pokemon moves, as types like Normal, Rock, Bug, Grass, and Ice are already among the weakest in the series. A new type may have benefited the Gen 5 critter more, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards for it.

PLZA's Mega Emboar Has a Glaring Weakness Feraligatr and Meganium Don't

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Emboar is allegedly fairly similar to the original, with a bit more armor on its body and more elaborate flames around its head, with the final design resembling a Chinese warrior. It also holds a spear made entirely of fire, based on Centro Leaks' description, which is arguably a very cool addition.

However, Mega Emboar may be literally bringing a stick to a gunfight due to the leaked Mega Zygarde, which not only counters Emboar with its types and has much better stats, but it also holds a massive weapon resembling a rocket or possibly a nuclear missile. Considering that Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Zygarde will most likely play a role in the story, Mega Emboar may not be the best critter to deal with it, whereas both Mega Feraligatr and Mega Meganium can deal 2x damage to it.
