Tyranitar is one of the strongest Pokemon available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, boasting impressive stats and powerful moves. To get Mega Tyranitar, players will need to get their hands on Tyranitarite, the Mega Stone required to attain that final power spike.
Luckily, obtaining Tyranitarite is part of the main story and is an unmissable event for players who progress through it. This guide covers all the details related to Tyranitarite, as well as where to find a Tyranitar in PLZA.

How to Get Tyranitarite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Tyranitarite can be obtained by defeating Rogue Mega Tyranitar in Main Mission 33 in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Main Mission 33: A Rogue Mega Tyranitar unlocks after players have completed Main Mission 31: A Summons from Vinnie, which is the very first main story mission you get after reaching Rank B in the Z-A Royale.
Once Main Mission 31 is complete, three Rogue Mega Pokemon’s locations become marked on the map, corresponding to the next three main missions. Follow the quest marker to Rogue Mega Tyranitar’s location to initiate the fight.
Players can catch a Larvitar near
Wild Zone 2 or on the rooftops of
Wild Zone 15. In the post-game, there is a chance to encounter a wild Alpha Tyranitar in
Wild Zone 20 as well.

Rogue Mega Tyranitar Strategy
Bringing a strong Fighting-type Pokemon to target Mega Tyranitar’s 4x weakness makes this fight much easier. Pokemon like
Heracross,
Chesnaught,
Falinks,
Scrafty, and
Pangoro are all great choices, but
Lucario is the ultimate counter against Mega Tyranitar.
This is because Lucario is the only Fighting-type Pokemon in PLZA that can effectively use Special Fighting-type moves like Aura Sphere and Focus Blast, which not only deals 4x damage to the Rogue Mega Tyranitar but also bypass its incredible Defense stat (150).
On top of that, Lucario’s secondary typing (Steel) is also 2x super effective against this Pokemon, allowing for moves like Flash Cannon to shine as well.
