Garchomp is one of the most powerful Dragon-type Pokemon available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Dragonite and Salamence. Better yet, players can easily get their hands on Garchomp very early on in the game by catching its pre-evolution, Gible.
This guide covers Gible’s exact location, how to catch it, the fastest way to evolve it into its final form, and how to get the Mega Stone that allows Garchomp to Mega Evolve. Thankfully, the process is surprisingly straightforward in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Here’s the breakdown.

Where to Find Gible in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Gible Location
Gible can be found in the dig holes in Wild Zone 8 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Wild Zone 8 is unlocked after players have completed Main Mission 9: Chase that Mysterious Pokemon.
Wild Zone 8 is a sandy region filled with small, dug-up pits with piles of mud around them. Most of these holes contain a
Drilbur, the pre-evolution of
Excadrill, but there is a small chance for a Gible to emerge instead.
The easiest way to check is to peek inside. If you see a small red dot surrounded by white, that’s a Drilbur, but if you see a small blue protrusion jutting out, that’s a Gible.
If you fail to find a Gible on the first try, exit the area or lose aggro, then fast travel to Wild Zone 8 again. Doing so will place you at the front entrance and reset all spawns in the area, including the dig holes where Gible could potentially spawn.
Do not attack any of the Drilbur you see. The dig holes serve as shared spawn points for both Drilbur and Gible, and if you defeat either, that spawn point goes on cooldown, preventing new Pokemon from appearing in that location for a period of time.
How to Evolve Gible into Garchomp in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
How to Get Garchomp
Gible evolves into
Gabite at level 24, then into
Garchomp at level 48. If you obtained your Gible from Wild Zone 8, it will be level 24, meaning it can immediately be evolved into Gabite.
However, to evolve Gabite into Garchomp, you will need to level up the Pokemon a fair bit, either by actively using it in battles or by feeding it EXP Candies or Rare Candies. Once it reaches level 48, you’ll get the option to evolve again.
In Wild Zone 20, all fully-evolved Pokemon available in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Pokedex have a chance to appear as Alpha Pokemon. This means you can hunt for and catch Alpha Garchomp in Wild Zone 20. However, this area only unlocks in the post-game, after the main story is finished. Even then, hunting for the Alpha Garchomp takes time and patience.
How to Get Garchompite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
How to Mega Evolve Garchomp
To Mega Evolve Garchomp, you will need the Garchompite Mega Stone. Garchompite can be purchased from the Stone Emporium for 70,000 Poke Dollars after the completion of Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution, where you obtain the Mega Ring for the first time.
The Stone Emporium is located on Vernal Avenue, directly south of Prism Tower. Once you have the Garchompite, give it to your Garchomp to hold onto. You should now be able to Mega Evolve Garchomp in any battle by pressing the Right Stick when the Mega Meter is full.
