Pokemon Legends: Z-A may not get new content in the form of additional DLC after Mega Dimension, but support for the game is still ongoing, both with regular updates and new ranked battle rewards. For example, players can get the Mega Stone for Sceptile in Season 5, but starting sometime next week, there will be new rewards for Season 6, including Mega Swampert. Yet, if you're still playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A and you're not done with all the content from the Mega Dimension DLC, rest assured that the newest software update finally has you covered, addressing a common complaint among fans.

While one of the most important updates for the game fixed Pokemon Legends: Z-A's shiny hunting methods by removing the ability to "overclock" spawner locations, giving future patches a sense of possible risk, each update has always had the game's improvement at heart. Now, with patch 2.0.1, the game is finally free of a problem that has plagued it since launch — the cap on Mega Shards you can collect. This was an issue when the game came out, and it became even more problematic with the DLC for several reasons:

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Shards are required to purchase Mega Stones from Quasartico Inc. During the story, with Mega Stones unlocking gradually as you progress through the campaign. However, the cost varies from 180 to 360 Mega Shards, meaning you could never purchase three or more of the more expensive ones due to the 999 cap on Mega Shards.
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A's TM NPC in the DLC sells a bunch of new TMs for Mega Shards, with the cost ranging from 360 to 540, making it very difficult to purchase multiple TMs, both due to the limit on Mega Shards and the fact that you could only ever get two at the same time, no matter the cost.
  • In order to get Genesect in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you have to buy all four Drives from this same NPC, with each costing 540 Mega Shards. With the 999 cap, you could never buy two Drives at the same time.
  • This NPC also sells Feathers for the various stats in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and each costs 60 Mega Shards. Considering that a single Feather is mostly going to be useless, as you'll need an even number to improve a Pokemon's stats, you will typically need 120 for two Feathers, if not multiples of that number.

Want to Catch 'em All? This is How You Find All Legendary and Mythical Pokemon in Legends: Z-A

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC brings back multiple Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, and here's how to catch 'em all.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Finally Raises The Mega Shards Cap to 9,999

Today, with the release of patch 2.0.1, Pokemon Legends: Z-A increased the cap on Mega Shards from 999 to 9,999, meaning that you can now easily stack this currency when playing through multiple instances of Hyperspace Wild Areas. In fact, this is an incredible quality-of-life improvement, as you can easily accumulate hundreds of Mega Shards, so with the previous cap, you would have had to go back and forth to Quasartico Inc. Or the NPC near Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Wild Zone 17 to trade for Mega Stones, TMs, Genesect's Drives, or Feathers.

This is also a fantastic change for potential new playthroughs or even new players, as gathering all the necessary Mega Shards will feel much less of a slog, considering that they can be accumulated for much longer before going to the vendor, with no worries of hitting that unwanted cap of 999. Even then, if you've beaten Pokemon Legends: Z-A already in full, including the DLC, and even if you've gotten all TMs and caught Genesect, Feathers will always be a great option for optimizing the EVs of your critters over the more expensive vitamins at Pokemon Centers.

Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A's New Mega Shard Cap is Good Even if You've Beaten The Game

Shiny Carvanha in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Since a Hyperspace Wild Area can yield around 200 Mega Shards if it's a small size, medium and large ones will always yield much more of the currency, allowing you to accrue as much as you want and then convert everything into Feathers or whichever other item you like. Raising the cap on Mega Shards was something that fans had requested soon after the game came out, and while it may be a bit too late for everyone who has finished the game, there are still some pros to this. For example, training some of the best Pokemon Legends: Z-A teams takes time, and you'll need plenty of Bottle Caps, Mints, and vitamins or Feathers — even if you've already done everything else.
