A clever Pokemon Legends: Z-A player has discovered an XP farm exploit that may seem cruel on the surface, but is in fact incredibly effective. This Pokemon Legends: Z-A XP farm makes it possible to grind tons of experience in Lumiose City.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been met with a solid critical reception, garnering a Top Critic Average of 83 on review aggregator site OpenCritic. However, player reviews have been more unforgiving. In the wake of its release, Pokemon Legends: Z-A was review-bombed, with complaints leveled at its visual presentation and lack of voice acting. Already, some players are breaking the game with XP exploits that could theoretically be abused endlessly.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A XP Farm Abuses Self-Destruct Exploit
Over on X, user Anthony_0313 discovered that some trainers in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Lumiose City have Pokemon that know the Self-Destruct move. They were able to kite the encounter and cause the Pokemon to use the move immediately. However, they simply run away from the fight while the Pokemon self-destructs, and the game never counts it as a victory for the player. Despite this, they still earn all the XP, but are able to repeat it as much as they want. Anthony_0313 does clarify that "if you're too slow to escape, the battle continues," and advises others to "put a fast Pokemon at the front."
There is something that feels a little cruel about forcing a monster to use Self-Destruct on itself repeatedly in the name of gaining quick XP in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. But there's very little to argue about in terms of its efficiency. In their original post, Anthony_0313 implores players to "do it before it gets patched," which feels like a distinct possibility considering how effective it is.
In RPGs such as the Pokemon series, grinding activities over and over again for items and XP is nothing new for players. Often, some players who have ignored side content may find themselves needing to grind in order to catch up with the game's increasing difficulty, while others want to make things much more trivial further down the line. These are single-player experiences, so any approach is valid. There have already been a few Pokemon Legends: Z-A farming methods found, but this XP exploit might just be the best so far.
