A Pokemon fan has shared their rendition of what a Mega Skarmory could look like. Pokemon fans are constantly imagining "what if" scenarios for the many monsters in the series, and this is one of the latest instances.
With Mega Evolutions getting a comeback in the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A, this unique type of evolution is on the mind of many Pokemon fans. Mega Evolution got its time to shine and was then shelved, disappearing in games following Gen 8. Much about Pokemon Legends: Z-A is still unknown, so artistic fans of the evolution form are hard at work imagining what Pokemon who've yet to get a Mega Evolution could look like if that were to change.
Enter Just-Drawing-Mons, who shared their concept for a Mega Skarmory. Skarmory has had a visual overhaul, with its beak in particular growing in size and changing its shape to become wider and more hooked. Its wings now have notches out of them, perhaps increasing its aerodynamics. There are more subtle differences, like the rings on its neck becoming sharper in design, the body appearing more sleek, and the dark gray portions of its body expanding to cover more of the bird's body.
While this Pokemon fan didn't provide any insight as to why they chose to design their Mega Skarmory this way, they're no stranger to the creation of fanart like this. Just-Drawing-Mons has previously created Mega Evolutions, typing twists, new evolutions, and even made silly ideas like turning Tangela into a ball of spaghetti.
Could Skarmory Receive a Mega Evolution in the Pokemon Games?
Skarmory makes for an interesting subject to get a Mega Evolution. The Pokemon was one of the premiere Steel-types, joining the game in Gen 2 with the inception of the then-new Pokemon typing. However, the Pokemon has been largely neglected since. Skarmory can't evolve and has no prior evolutions, it didn't receive a Gigantamax form, and unless Pokemon Legends: Z-A gives it an official Mega Evolution, that trend looks to continue. However, that also makes it a great candidate to get a Mega Evolution, as it could revitalize gameplay around the Steel/Flying-type.
Since Pokemon Legends: Z-A's release date is still a ways off, it may be some time before fans get a look at which Pokemon will become Megas for the first time. Given how many Pokemon are in the series now, it's all but guaranteed that some will be overlooked, disappointing some fans. However, fan art like this can at least give players an idea of what it would be like in the event that their favorites get skipped.
