Pokemon surprised fans by dropping a new app called Play Pokemon Access. Given the high level of activity in the Pokemon competitive scene and events in general, this app will be very helpful.
Pokemon has long had a competitive side to it, ever since 1997 during the Nintendo Cup, where players of Pokemon Red and Blue battled. This would eventually move on to the card game as well, with the first Pokemon Trading Card Game World Championship being held in 2004. There is still a strong number of players to this day playing Pokemon competitively, both in video game and card game form, with the Pokemon North America International Championships happening in June 2025.
Pokemon GO is About to Break a Regional Rule With Its Summer Concert Event
Pokemon GO allows a few select critters to be found in special locations around the globe, and one of them will be easier to catch for a limited time.
As reported by Pocket Tactics, Pokemon made a surprise shadow drop of a new app called Play Pokemon Access. This allows players interested in playing competitively to find tournaments and events that are being held in their area. This includes events for the video games, the Pokemon Trading Card Game, and Pokemon GO. This means that, for example, fans can use the new app to keep track of where to go for the new Pokemon GO event that was recently announced.
Play Pokemon Access Helps Players Learn How to Play Competitively
The Play Pokemon Access app can be great with players familiar with playing competitive Pokemon, as well as new fans who want to get into the scene. For newer competitors, they will be able to read about all the rules, all the banned Pokemon, and a full database of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, allowing them to start as prepared as possible. Veterans will appreciate being able to view their championship points and look at team sheets, as well as all of the other features, if they need a refresher. Additionally, players will be able to collect badges within the app by taking part in sanctioned events. This is coming out at a perfect time, as the Pokemon Trading Card Game is preparing for its new set.
Pokemon fans have a lot to look forward to. Between the new card set coming soon and changing the game, and the Pokemon Presents earlier in July giving many new reveals, fans will have many new and updated ways to enjoy the franchise. Play Pokemon Access will help fans keep track of many of these aspects and play them competitively. However, they will still need to register for these events either in person or through a third-party app. Hopefully, these features will be integrated into the app in the future, making it even more convenient for competitors.
