Summary

  • A talented fan artist creates a new Poison-type Eeveelution called Serpeon, staying true to the Pokemon universe's design aesthetic.
  • Fan art like this is popular as it reimagines familiar creatures, giving fans insight into the creative process.
  • With no new Eevee evolutions in a while, fans have created their own designs, showcasing their talent and creativity.

A talented Pokemon fan artist designed a new evolution for Eevee, reimagining the creature as a Poison-type. While The Pokemon Company has provided fans with many different Eeveelutions over the years, a new member hasn't been added to the Eevee family in quite a while. The last new entry, the Fairy-type Sylveon, debuted back in Gen 6 with Pokemon X and Y over a decade ago.

Perhaps because Eevee and its various evolutions rank highly among some of the most popular Pokemon, imagining new Eeveelutions featuring previously unused types has become a popular practice for many fan artists. The Pokemon Company has already created Eeveelutions featuring the Electric, Fire, Water, Dark, Psychic, Grass, Ice, and Fairy types, but that still leaves the door open for 10 other potential options.

Reddit user JJonnie shared their vision for a Poison-type Eeveelution they call Serpeon. As the name suggests, the new Pokemon makes use of snakes in its design. Serpeon features snake bangs that swoop across its forehead, a snake scarf that hangs around its neck, and a bouquet of snakes for its tail. According to JJonnie, Serpeon can produce snakes from its body that extend to bite its enemies. With many of the best pure Poison-type Pokemon using snakes as inspiration for their design, Serpeon feels right at home with the official creatures in the universe.

JJonnie has been a consistent contributor in the Pokemon fan art community, creating numerous fan-made creatures over the years. The artist has made new paradox forms, fused various creatures together, and even designed some unique franchise-blending crossover pieces. In an epic display of talent and creativity, the Pokemon fan artist even created a Water-type version of Garchomp drawn to look like a hammerhead shark.

Pokemon fan art like this tends to be quite popular with the community as it reimagines familiar creatures in new ways. It makes it easier for fans to follow along in the creative process because they know the reference point well. It's fun for artists because they get to share their creative visions, but it's also enjoyable for less artistic fans who get some insight into the thought behind the design itself.

As the presumably final wave of DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has finally been released, the future of the franchise is a bit unclear at the moment. Game Freak and The Pokemon Company typically like to offset new main series RPGs with spin-off titles or even remakes of older games, but the next project remains unannounced. In the meantime, new monster-battling titles like Palworld look to carve out an audience in 2024.
