A Pokemon fan made an incredible discovery at a second-hand store, acquiring a very special trading card. Pokemon cards can be much more expensive depending on their rarity and availability on the market, becoming even more coveted if they are released in Japan.

A notable recent example is the Zekrom ex Black White Rare from the Japanese Black Bolt and White Flare set. This card features a stunning illustration against a solid black background, Holofoil patterning, and monochromatic details. According to PokeDATA, fans can find a raw copy of this Zekrom for sale on eBay for $312.49. Giratina V, from the Lost Abyss expansion, is another expensive Japanese card. A raw copy can go for $481.70, while a PSA 10 costs as much as $965.96. There are many Japanese Pokemon trading cards that are not cheap, and a fan recently got one of them for an incredible price.

A Pokemon TCG fan gets incredibly lucky while opening packs, and pulls out one of the cards currently most coveted by the community.

On the Pokemon TCG subreddit, Redditor delosproyectos shared a photo of a card they bought from the $1 bin at their local thrift store. The card, featuring an illustration of Red with Pikachu and the Kanto starter Pokemon, stands out for its nostalgic appearance. However, they were in for a big surprise when they looked online and discovered that this card could be valuable depending on its grading. According to Price Charting, a raw copy costs $234.95, while a grade 10 can reach a whopping $4408.00. On eBay, there are copies of the card that can cost over $700, with one priced at $969.56.

What Makes the Pokemon Card With Red, Pikachu, and the Kanto Starters So Special?

This card is called "FILE NO.000," and is part of a Japanese series called Pocket Monsters Carddass Trading Cards which was released by Bandai Cardass between 1996 and 1997. FILE NO.000, specifically, is a promotional card with a rainbow frame that was released in 1997 at Ito-Yokado stores in Japan. Its illustration was done by Ken Sugimori, the legendary artist responsible for the artwork in the Pokemon games, who has made extensive contributions to the franchise, including trading cards and the design of all Gen 1 Pokemon.

Other Redditors were shocked by the OP's acquisition, who managed to get a rare card for a ridiculously low price considering what it could cost. However, this is not the first time a Pokemon fan has made such a discovery. Another equally impressive case happened earlier this year when someone managed to buy several classic Pokemon TCG packs, including boosters of the Jungle Booster and Fossil sets.
