An artistic Pokemon fan has come up with a creative design for a Diglett variant and its evolution that transforms it into a Water-type Pokemon. Unlike some other fan-made Pokemon creations, this one provides a heartbreaking reason for the variant, showcasing what happens when the Mole Pokemon is left all alone.
Introduced back in the '90s as part of the original 151 Pokemon in the first pair of games in the franchise, Diglett has a lot of history behind it, appearing as the original Pokemon number 50. The tiny mole still baffles players by poking its head up out of a hole in the ground, leaving a lot of speculation about what the unseen portion of its body looks like, and along with Magnemite, it established the trend of Pokemon who evolve by joining together with others of the same species.

For one artist and Pokemon fan, that union of three Digletts to form a Dugtrio provided a sad backstory for the creation of the Water-type Diglett variant Soblett, not to be confused with the convergent form Wiglett from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Drawn and shared by Reddit user Matratzfratz, this fan-made creation looks a lot like the original Diglett, except that its normally glossy black eyes have been replaced with wide, quavering ones that stream tears down its face and form a sort of moat around the rest of its exposed body. Looking at its accompanying evolution, Sobsolo, reveals the reason for its sorrow, as instead of being joined by two others of its own kind, its tears turn into streams of water arcing from its eyes, each with faces of their own, providing a much more melancholy trio.
Pokemon Fan Shows What Happens When Diglett Evolves Without Friends
Diglett and Dugtrio have become popular subjects for artists looking to make fan-created variants, and that could have something to do with their history. In 2016, Pokemon Sun and Moon's Alolan forms marked the first official case of previously introduced Pokemon showing up in a new region but with a different appearance, typing, and move set. Diglett and Dugtrio were among the 18 Gen-1 Pokemon to receive this honor initially, adding Steel to their Ground-typing and resulting in golden locks springing forth from Dugtrio's heads, mirroring Hawaiian volcanic glass.
Pokemon fan designs are among the more popular activities in the franchise's community, and the artist behind Soblett and Sobsolo has a history of sharing their variants that date back multiple years. Past creations include a German folklore version of Falinks made up of garden gnomes, a Poison/Flying-type variant of Arbok that turns the cobra into a kite, and Poison-type takes on Diglett and Dugtrio based on oil spills. For this newest creation, though, the artist sends a positive message that it's okay to feel sad. "But unlike Sobsolo, you are not alone," a message scrawled on the image reads. "It's okay to seek help."
