Bellsprout, Weepinbell, and Victreebel are all Grass/Poison-type Pokemon that made their debut in the first generation of Pokemon. They were one of the many dual-type Grass/Poison Pokemon from the Kanto Region, and Bellsprout even has its own tribute in the Johto Region: The Bell Tower. There isn't anything like this for the Flower Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, but those who bought The Teal Mask DLC can add Bellsprout to their team.

With so many Grass-type Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet, the Bellsprout-line may spend less time battling and more time in the PC Boxes. However, catching it and its evolutions are necessary for the Kitakami Pokedex. In other words, even if players wind up never using it, they may want to consider catching one anyway for the Pokedex completion rewards.

Where to Get Bellsprout

For Scarlet/Violet trainers just starting their journey in the Kitakami area, they'll need to report to Mossui Town before they can wander too far. Mossui Town is straight up the path from the bus stop. Once players meet and battle both Carmine and Kieran, they'll be tasked with finding several signposts around Kitakami that detail the history of the region. Bellsprout can be found at Apple Hills, which just happens to be in the direction of the first goal.

To reach Apple Hills, simply take the west path leading out of Mossui Town. There are apple orchards all along the hills, so they're impossible to miss. Bellsprout can be found walking under the apple trees, or in the nearby fields. Thankfully, Bellsprout are more of a curious species than a timid one, so they won't need to be chased down.

Depending on where Scarlet/Violet players are at in their gameplay, the Bellsprout's level will be around level 9/10 or around level 60. If players have already cleared the postgame/Ace Academy Tournament, then they can expect to find level 60 Bellsprouts walking about.

A Grass/Poison-type like Bellsprout is weak to Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic-type moves. They shouldn't be too difficult to catch, but if players find they're having trouble, they can try to inflict a status ailment on it. Note that Bellsprout's Poison-typing gives it immunity to being Poisoned. It will also shake off a move like Sleep Powder thanks to Gras

How to Evolve Bellsprout into Weepinbell (How to Get Weepinbell)

Bellsprout evolves when it reaches level 21. If the Bellsprout is level 9/10 at the time its caught, then players will need to feed it Exp Candies or make sure it's in the party during battles or Auto-Battle. If using Bellsprout for Auto-Battles, then players will want to make sure they're sending Bellsprout out against Pokemon around its level, and weak to Bellsprout's typing (i.e: Water, Ground, Rock, Fairy, and Grass-type Pokemon). Those that caught a level 60 Bellsprout just need to level it up one more time to initiate the evolution into Weepinbell.

Rare Candy and Exp Candies can be picked up all around Paldea or Kitakami. They'll appear as sparkles lying on the ground. However, a better way of farming Exp Candies is to partake in Tera Raid Battles. The higher the Raid, the better the Candy.

How to Evolve Weepinbell into Victreebel (How to Get Victreebel)

evolve weepinbell pokemon scarlet violet the teal mask

Now Scarlet/Violet trainers have Weepinbell, they can evolve it into Victreebel. To evolve Weepinbell, use a Leaf Stone on it. Just like the Rare Candies, Leaf Stones can sometimes be picked up on the ground, but they appear more in areas with trees. If players don't mind spending money, they can buy a Leaf Stone for 3000 at Delibird Presents once they've obtained three Gym Badges.

Since Victreebel evolves via stone, it won't learn any new moves upon leveling. If players want to make adjustments to its moveset, they'll need to have it Remember Moves. This is done by accessing the Victreebel's Summary Page, and tabbing over to Moves. Press A-button, then select Remember Moves to pull up everything it could potentially learn as a Weepinbell.

More Information About Victreebel (Is It Worth Using?)

Grass Pokémon Victreebel with open mouth fangs in anime
Victreebel

Victreebel retains its Grass/Poison-typing, so it has the same effectiveness and weaknesses as its pre-evolved forms. Its base stat spread will appear as the following:

HP

80

Attack

105

Special Attack

100

Defense

65

Special Defense

70

Speed

70

Total

490

It just misses a base stat total of 500 by 10 points, but that's okay. Victreebel's high Attack and Special Attack means it can work as either a Physical or Special Attacker. Since Victreebel's (or rather, Weepinbell's) learnset for damaging moves is mostly Physical, it may be better to run Victreebel as a Physical Attacker. It also learns more Grass-type moves than Poison-type, so it may not be a bad idea to use a Poison Jab TM to give it some more coverage.

On the downside, Victreebel's not fast or tanky. This means it's likely to be knocked out by Pokemon that are much faster and stronger than it. While Victreebel's Attack and Special Attack make it good for dishing out damage, it may run into some problems with its low Defense and slow Speed.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
