Pokemon Scarlet and Violet confirmed that trainers attending the 2025 Pokemon Japan Championships will receive a special Amoonguss used on the 2024 World Champion's team. While this Amoonguss will initially be distributed exclusively to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players who attend the event, it may later be released online.
Known as the Mushroom Pokemon, Amoonguss first appeared in Pokemon Black and White. Amoonguss evolves from Foongus starting at level 39, and is a Grass and Poison dual-type creature. In competitive Pokemon battles, Amoonguss' high HP and decent special attack stats make it a viable supporter with moves that can debilitate enemies with moves like Spore, Rage Powder, and Toxic. Amoonguss also received an exclusive Paradox variant in Pokemon Scarlet, as the prehistoric Grass and Dark dual-type called Brute Bonnet can be found throughout Area Zero.
Pokemon Releases Official Replica of Penny's Eevee Backpack
Pokemon reveals its latest accessory, an iconic Eevee-themed backpack, just like the one Penny is known for wearing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Although Amoonguss and Foongus can be found throughout the grassy fields of the Paldean provinces, some Pokemon Scarlet and Viole t players can soon claim a special variant of the Mushroom Pokemon. According to ComicBook, an Amoonguss based on the one utilized by 2024 Pokemon Senior Division World Champion Ray Yamanaka will be distributed on June 21 and 22 during the 2025 Pokemon Japan Championships in Yokohama. The Amoonguss will only be distributed to attendees at first, though Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players may still receive it online via Mystery Gift at an undetermined date.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Amoonguss Distribution Details
- An Amoonguss modeled after one used by Pokemon Champion Ray Yamanaka will be distributed on June 21 and 22.
- The Amoonguss will be given away exclusively at the 2025 Pokemon Japan Championships in Yokohama.
- Online distributions for Amoonguss may be held at a later date.
- Yamanaka's Amoonguss will have the moves Spore, Sludge Bomb, Protect, and Rage Powder.
Yamanaka's Amoonguss will have the moves Spore, Sludge Bomb, Protect, and Rage Powder, which makes it a threat against Grass and Fairy Pokemon that can be used to stall out Amoonguss and prolong the battle. Sludge Bomb can also be swapped out for Pollen Puff in double battles to either heal a teammate or deal Bug-type damage to Psychic Pokemon looking to exploit Amoonguss' Poison-type weakness.
While the Amoonguss distribution is exclusive to the 2025 Pokémon Japan Championships as of this writing, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can still claim other items and creatures via Mystery Gift distributions. Trainers can claim a Rillaboom used by Pokemon Champion Wei Chyr via the code "R1LLAB00M2024TW" in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet until July 31. Other prizes, such as a pack of Sandwich Ingredients and Rotom Phone Cases, can also be claimed via Mystery Gift Codes.
Mystery Gifts do not require an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to claim. Along with the news that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will receive graphical and performance upgrades on the Switch 2 starting June 5, Pokemon trainers have a lot to look forward to.
