Shiny Ting-Lu is the third Treasure of Ruin to appear in Tera Raid Battles, and it constitutes a formidable foe for any trainer in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. No matter what players might think, Ting-Lu is arguably one of the strongest of this Legendary quartet, and due to its typing, moveset, and bulkiness, it's going to be difficult to beat it in 5-Star Tera Raids.
So, with the purpose of leading players to victory, this guide offers critical information on Shiny Ting-Lu stats, strengths, weaknesses, moveset, best counters, and strategies to beat it and claim a place among the players facing this challenge. Of course, this also includes information on how to get Shiny Ting-Lu after beating it.
Ting-Lu Strengths and Weaknesses in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Ting-Lu is a Dark/Ground-type Pokemon, but will have the single Ground Tera-type during the 5-Star Tera Raid Battle event, so players need to face the full might of this beast and its Ground-type moves, although they need to be careful of certain Dark-type moves that might cause real harm to the whole party. Shiny Ting-Lu is weak to Water, Grass, and Ice, so make sure to prepare some Pokemon with those types and take advantage of the STAB to finish the Raid quickly before it blows everything away.
Shiny Ting-Lu will most likely use Stomping Tantrum (Ground), Heavy Slam (Steel), Stone Edge (Rock), and Snarl (Dark), so there's a lot of damage type coverage that limits the options for players. Heavy Slam is a dangerous move, since it's effective against Ice-type Pokemon and calculates damage based on the difference in weight between Ting-Lu and its target, and since no Ice-type Pokemon can be heavier than Ting-Lu (not even Baxcalibur), this attack will hit for 120 Damage all the time.
Shiny-Ting Lu might use two annoying moves called Ruination (Dark) and Sandstorm (Ground). Ruination is especially dangerous for Belly Drum users, since it always cuts health by 50%, and if players use Belly Drum right after, they will be exposed to a follow-up attack and drain the timer bar prematurely.
Then, to make things even more annoying, Ting-Lu might also use Sandstorm, a Hazard-type move that will chip away the Party's health every turn, unless they are resistant to Sandstorm (like Pokemon of the Ground, Rock, or Steel-type, or those having abilities like Sand Force, Sand Veil, Sand Rush). It's a tricky move to counter, unless players go prepared, or use the Garchomp with Sand Force strategy, so let's get back to this in the Counters section.
Best Counters For Shiny Ting-Lu Tera Raid Battle In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
There are many good counters for Shiny Ting-Lu, but among them, a few are strong enough to beat it with a decent spam strategy. Flapple, Appletun, and Hydrapple are great choices, be it individually, or in the case of Hydrapple, for a full party. Hydrapple can offer extreme support to a group of Flapple or Appletun, which can take advantage of Grassy Terrain to deal lots of continuous damage and recover, forcing Ting-Lu to a tug-of-war that will most likely end with it beaten in a few turns.
Flapple is particularly strong as a spammer, and thanks to Grassy Terrain from Appletun and the support from Hydrapple's Dragon Cheer, it can snowball by round 2, breaking Ting-Lu's shield and forcing it into submission. All things considered, if using Appletun in the same team, (2x Flapple, 1x Appletun, 1x Hydrapple) trainers can beat this Raid without too many issues.
Then, for solo players, the ideal counter is Ogerpon (no mask) equipped with Metronome, and taking full advantage of its Grass-type, plus its powerful Ability Defiance, which will be extremely useful in case Ting-Lu uses Snarl in quick succession, since Defiance will grant Ogerpon more Att. Each time it is hit with a stat-lowering move. Players tend to use Ivy Cudgel or Wood Hammer, but Horn Leech is also a decent move players can spam to continuously heal Ogerpon, taking full advantage of the Metronome's escalating damage.
In case players want to try a OHKO with Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed), they should know that this strategy is fairly decent, but tough to manage with random players. They need a very concise strategy to activate Paldean Tauros' Anger Point by attacking it with a friendly fire move. The setup is a little forced, but we will discuss it next.
How to Beat Ting-Lu Tera-Raid Battle in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Here are the best Strategies for beating Shiny Ting-Lu in this Event Tera Raid Battle, starting with a Paldean Tauros OHKO strategy, and including a Solo Ogerpon build, and a Support Hydrapple for the Appletun and Flapple teams:
Paldean Tauros (OHKO + Group)
|
Tera-type |
Water |
|
Nature |
Adamant (Atk + Sp. Atk -) |
|

|
EVs |
252 Atk - 4 Sp. Def - 252 Speed |
|
Moveset |
Water Crash - Aqua Jet - Rain Dance - Reversal |
|
Held-Item |
Choice Scarf |
- Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed) needs to be accompanied by a select group of Pokemon to manage a one-hit-KO, but if players are willing to group up and follow this strategy, then they will beat the Raid in only a few turns. Besides Tauros, bring Single-Strike Urshifu with Wicked Blow (guarantees a critical hit, and can be used in Tauros as a friendly-fire move to trigger Anger Point), Pelipper with the Drizzle Ability (or Politoad) to cause Rain and increase Tauros' Water Crash power, and Helping Hand to boost its power even further, Galarian Weezing (with Levitate to avoid Ground-type moves), and Cheer to further increase Tauros' damage. In round 1, use Helping Hand with Pelipper and Cheer with Weezing. Wait for Ting-Lu's attack, then use Wicked Blow with Urshifu on Tauros to trigger Anger Point, and next, one-hit KO Ting-Lu using Water Crash with Tauros.
Ogerpon (Regen + Solo)

252 Atk - 4 Sp. Def - 252 Speed |

Moveset |
Synthesis - Swords Dance - Horn Leech - Grassy Terrain |
|
Held-Item |
Metronome |
- Ogerpon with this build becomes a juggernaut that is practically unkillable. Trainers should take full advantage of Grassy Terrain's buff, which will increase the effectiveness of Horn Leech. Then players can use Swords Dance to increase Ogerpon's Attk. And in case that Ting-Lu uses Snarl, it will also receive an attack boost from Defiance, maxing out damage in only 2 turns. After that, it's a matter of spamming Horn Leech and Synthesis until Ting-Lu enters Tera-phase, then Terastalize and beat him by spamming Horn Leech with the Metronome's snowball buff.
Hydrapple/Flapple/Appletun (Support + Group)
|
Tera-type |
Grass |
|
Nature |
Bold (Def + Sp. Atk -) |

Dragon Cheer - Recover - Grassy Terrain - Reflect |

Light Clay |
- Hydrapple, Flapple, and Appletun can become a particularly vicious Raid Party that ensures victory by taking full advantage of the combination of Hydrapple's Dragon Cheer, Appletun's Grassy Terrain, and the spammy Grav Apple from Flapple. Including Grassy Terrain in Hydrapple's moveset can also help refresh the field effect, and relieve Appletun from its pivot-support role, guaranteeing it can attack using Apple Acid and Giga Drain, joining the spamming wave and chipping Ting-Lu's HP and Special Defense in the process. Alternate using Reflect alongside the team (Appletun should have it as well) to increase the Sp. Def of the team. With Light Clay equipped, Hydrapple becomes a full-fledged support and can come up with a timely Reflect and alternate Dragon Cheer when Ting-Lu resets stats during phase 2.
