Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Teal Mask DLC opens up to a brand-new area for trainers to explore while bringing back Pokemon from previous generations. This update has also enabled compatibility with Pokemon HOME, making it easier to obtain Pokemon without resorting to traditional methods.

Phantump and its evolution, Trevenant, appear in Kitakami, meaning Scarlet/Violet trainers are going to have to catch them if they intend to complete the Kitakami Pokedex. Compared to some of the other Pokemon in Teal Mask, Phantump and Trevenant shouldn't cause trainers too much of an issue. However, it's best to have a team of Pokemon around level 55/70 before hunting down these Ghost/Grass-types.

Where to Find Phantump

Phantump can be found in the Timeless Woods. This is in the northeast corner of the map. It can be reached by heading east from Paradise Barrens or north from Kitakami Hall. The Timeless Woods aren't an area that trainers will visit in the Teal Mask's main story. However, they'll have to visit this area if they take on the Blood Moon Ursaluna side quest from Perrin.

While the Pokemon in Timeless Woods do have their level scaled, they won't drop below level 53. If Scarlet/Violet players have completed "The Way Home" main quest, then the Timeless Woods Pokemon will be around level 74 instead.

Phantump is a level 50 (or level 71) Pokemon. It's easier to find it at night, but Ghost-type Pokemon can spawn during the day albeit at a lower rate. Occasionally, lower-leveled Phantump (i.e: level 30) may spawn in the Kitakami Wilds, which is the patch of land between Paradise Barrens and Timeless Woods.

Phantump's catch rate isn't that low, so trainers should be able to catch one by using a Quick Ball. If it's nighttime, a Dusk Ball is recommended, too. In case trainers have to battle, avoid using hard-hitting moves, as Phantump's Defense is rather poor. Also keep in mind that its Ghost-typing makes it immune to Normal-type attacks. Try inflicting a status ailment before using a Poke Ball.

Another way to get Phantump is to look for one in 3-star Tera Raids. A Phantump in a Tera Raid may have a different Tera-typing than the ones that can be obtained in the wild (which will have Ghost or Grass Tera-typing). Like all Pokemon in 3-star Raids, a Raid Phantump can potentially have its Hidden Ability: Harvest.

How to Evolve Phantump into Trevenant

Phantump evolves into Trevenant when traded. To trade in Scarlet/Violet, players will need to have a Nintendo Online Membership Subscription. Once they have this, they can use the Poke Portal, which can be accessed in the pause-menu (X-button) in Scarlet/Violet. From there, select Link Trade and Set Code to give to a friend.

Where to Find Trevenant in the Wild

Those that can't trade can instead catch a Terastallized Trevenent in the Timeless Woods. This one appears near the middle of the woods (refer to the orange flag on the above image), and trainers can battle/defeat it before attempting to catch it. The Trevenant's Tera-typing is Normal, therefore eliminating Trevenant's usual type-weakness to Ghost-type moves. Players will need to lower its HP to a quarter so that it loses its Terastallization. Once this happens, it can be caught.

Usually, Trevenant is weak to Fire and Dark-type moves, but the Normal-type Trevenant is weak against Fighting-type moves. Keep this in mind when weakening it in battle.

Another way to find Trevenant is in 5 or 6-star Tera Raids. 5-star Raids unlock when trainers have completed "The Way Home", while 6-star Raids are available upon completing the postgame/Academy Ace Tournament. Also, like Phantump, Trevenants will only appear in the Tera Raids in Kitakami. They won't spawn in Paldea.

Getting Phantump & Trevenant with Pokemon HOME

pokemon home violet transfer

The other method of getting Trevenant without trading is to transfer one from another game using Pokemon HOME. Both Pokemon appear in Sword/Shield, so if players caught one in Gen 8, it can be moved to Gen 9. Another way of getting them is to catch and evolve a Phantump in Pokemon GO. These Pokemon spawn more in GO around Halloween.

To transfer a Pokemon from GO to HOME:

  1. Make sure the HOME account is linked to GO.
  2. Once this is done, access GO's Settings, then select Connected Devices and Services.
  3. Choose Pokemon HOME to use the Transporter Device to send Trevenant over. It can then be picked up in HOME on the Switch.

If transferring a Trevenant from Sword/Shield:

  1. Make sure the Trevenant is in one of Sword/Shield's PC Boxes.
  2. Save, then open Sword/Shield in HOME and move it to the Basic Box.
  3. Save and exit, then open Scarlet/Violet (in HOME) to move Trevenant from the Basic Box to a PC Box.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
