In Gen 5, Normal/Flying-type Rufflet and Braviary were revealed alongside Dark/Flying-type Vullaby and Mandibuzz. Originally, Rufflet and Braviary were exclusive to Pokemon White/White 2; Vullaby and Mandibuzz were Pokemon Black/Black 2 exclusives. Fortunately, this isn't the case for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus released a regional variant for Braviary: Hisuian Braviary, a Psychic/Flying-type. Now that Scarlet/Violet is compatible with Pokemon HOME, trainers can have Hisuian Braviary in their party. Gettng Braviary's Hisuian form requires more steps than getting the Unovan Braviary, but for some trainers, the effort is worth it.

How to Get Rufflet in Scarlet/Violet
Rufflet can be found just about everywhere in Paldea, but players may want to check out the following locations:
- South Province (Area One, Three, Four, Six)
- North Province (Area One, Area Two
- East Province (Area Three)
- Dalizapa Passage
- Glaseado Mountain
- Asado Desert
The sections that Rufflet spawns in South Province are easier to reach with Koraidon/Miraidon. The ones in East Province may require Koraidon/Miraidon's climb ability, so it may be better to look elsewhere if players are just starting the Treasure Hunt in their playthrough. If trainers head towards Asado Desert, which is arguably the easiest way to get Rufflet, they can find hordes of the eaglet Pokemon around level 25.
There are also Braviary in the Asado Desert, but they're level 55-56, so it may not be possible to catch them if players don't have many gym badges. Furthermore, these Braviary are the Unovan variant (ie: Normal/Flying).
Rufflet can be a bit tricky to catch, but try using a Quick Ball at the start of battle. If this fails, chip at its HP until it's in the orange/red. If looking for Rufflet in the Asado Desert, be careful. If there is a sandstorm brewing, Rufflet will lose some HP at the end of each turn. Unfortunately, just like any other non-Ground/Rock/Steel-type, Rufflet can be KO'd by sandstorms.
Pokemon GO: How To Get Shiny Zekrom
Pokemon GO players can get a Shiny Zekrom through 5-star raids by following this comprehensive guide.
How to Evolve Rufflet into Hisuian Braviary in Scarlet/Violet
Rufflet evolves at level 54, but only into Normal/Flying-type Braviary if it evolves in Paldea or Kitakami (Scarlet/Violet). To get the Hisuian Braviary, trainers will need to transfer their Rufflet to Legends: Arceus and evolve it in Hisui. If Rufflet is ready to evolve in Legends: Arceus, the Poke Ball icon by its name in the menu will be glowing.
Another way to get Hisuian Braviary is to catch Rufflet in Legends: Arceus, evolve it, then transfer to Scarlet/Violet. Of course, getting Hisuian Braviary through this method will mean that it will have a different Trainer ID from Scarlet/Violet. Thus, if players want their Pokemon to have the same Trainer IDs, they'll want to transfer Rufflet from Scarlet/Violet instead.
Rufflet in Legends: Arceus only appear in the Alabaster Icelands around Lake Acuity.
Here's what to do:
- Catch Rufflet in Scarlet/Violet,
- Place Rufflet in a PC Box (SV). Save and exit.
- Go into Pokemon HOME on the Switch, and open Scarlet/Violet, then move it to one of HOME's Basic Boxes. Save, and then exit.
- Open Legends: Arceus in HOME to move Rufflet from the Basic Box to a Pasture. Save, and then exit.
- Exit out of Pokemon HOME, then open Legends: Arceus, and place Rufflet into the party.
- Level up Rufflet to level 54 (if necessary), then evolve it. Once it becomes Hisuian Braviary, place it back in the Pasture, then save and exit.
- Go back into Pokemon HOME, open Legends: Arceus, and move the Hisuian Braviary to a Basic Box.
- Open Scarlet/Violet in Pokemon HOME to complete the transfer back to Paldea.
* If trainers are transferring Hisuian Braviary directly from Legends: Arceus:
- Evolve Rufflet in Legends: Arceus to get Hisuian Braviary. Then, place it in a Pasture and save the game.
- Go into Pokemon HOME, open Legends: Arceus' storage, and move the Hisuian Braviary from a Pasture to the Basic Box.
- While still in HOME, open Scarlet/Violet to move the Hisuian Braviary from Basic Box to PC Box. Save and exit.
* Again, Hisuian Braviary transferred through this method will not have the same Trainer ID as the player in Scarlet/Violet. This means if Hisuian Braviary is transferred to a different game, its base Friendship will be reset when it returns to its trainer in Paldea. It also won't obey the Scarlet/Violet trainer if they don't have enough gym badges. On the plus side, transferred Pokemon function the same as Traded Pokemon, which means Hisuian Braviary will receive double experience in battle.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Evolve Cutiefly into Ribombee
Players with the Teal Mask DLC can catch Cutiefly and Ribombee in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Hisuian Braviary's Differences in Scarlet/Violet
When transferred to Scarlet/Violet, Hisuian Braviary will gain the following:
- Access to a wider learnset.
- Be able to learn moves via TMs.
- Have an Ability.
- Be able to hold Items.
As a result, it will lose the ability to:
- Use Strong/Agile-style Moves.
- If it was an Alpha Hisuian Braviary in Legends: Arceus, its model will shrink to accommodate Scarlet/Violet's scale. However, it can get the Alpha Pokemon title from an NPC in Levincia.
- Some moves that it could learn via Tutoring in Legends: Arceus (such as Mystical Fire) cannot be learned by Hisuian Braviary in Scarlet/Violet. So, if a Hisuian Braviary is transferred while knowing this move, it will delete the move once it's been transferred.
A positive to Hisuian Braviary being transferred is that its signature move, Esper Wing, will have its power raised to 80 and its accuracy to 100%. In Legends: Arceus, non-Strong Style Esper Wing would have an accuracy of 90% and only have a 75 (normal) or 65 (Agile) base power.
Which Braviary is Better? (Is Hisuian Braviary Good in Scarlet/Violet?)
The shor answer to this question comes down to a trainer's preference. If they want a physical attacker, they'll want to choose Normal/Flying-type Braviary. Those looking for a special attacker that's super effective against Poison-type will want to choose Hisuian Braviary.
Here are various comparisons between both Braviary in Scarlet/Violet:

Both Braviarys have a base stat total of 510, but the stats themselves can be influenced by EVs and the Braviary's Nature. Looking at them side-by-side, it's clear that Unovan Braviary has a better Attack stat but poor Special Attack, whereas Hisuian Braviary is the opposite. Unfortunately for Hisuian Braviary, it has more base HP, but lower Defense and Special Defense by five points. It's also quite slower than Unovan Braviary, meaning its likely to move after the opponent.
Hisuian Braviary's learnset also suffers from having more physical moves than special, which, given Hisuian Braviary's base 83 Attack, isn't going to do it any favors. To make a more-rounded Hisuian Braviary, players will want to teach it moves via TM, such as Shadow Ball and Psychic. The Unovan Braviary doesn't have this problem since its learnset is fitting of its base stats and typing.

While Hisuian Braviary gains moves that are (normally) super effective against Poison-type Pokemon, it gains two weaknesses that regular Braviary does not have: Ghost and Dark-type. It also loses its immunity to Ghost-type moves. Despite this, Hisuian Braviary's resistance to Fighting-type moves is enhanced thanks to its Psychic-typing, whereas Unovan Braviary will take regular damage from Fighting-type moves thanks to its dual-typing of Normal/Flying.

- Keen Eye prevents the user's accuracy from being lowered, and it also ignores the target's changes to its evasiveness when attacking.
- Sheer Force powers up moves with secondary effects at the result of losing these effects. For example, Air Slash will occasionally cause the opponent Pokemon to flinch. If used by a Pokemon with Sheer Force, Air Slash loses this ability in exchange for having +30% added to its base power.
- Tinted Lens (Hidden), Hisuian Braviary's Hidden Ability, doubles the power of its not very effective attacks. This does not count for moves that have no effect on the target. Braviary's Hidden Ability, Defiant, will sharply raise its Attack if any of its stats are lowered in battle.
