Ground-type Rhyhorn and its evolutions, Rhydon and Rhyperior, are obtainable in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet as of the 3.0.0 update and release of the Indigo Disk, part 2 of the expansion pass. If you plan on catching Rhyhorn or Rhydon in the wild, you will need the expansion pass to gain access to Terarium of Blueberry Academy. Getting the Rhyhorn-line's final evolution, Rhyperior, will take some more work.

Most Pokemon evolve via leveling up or when exposed to an evolution item such as a Water Stone. Then there are Pokemon like Rhydon that evolve through trade and only if it's holding a specific item. Unfortunately for some Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players, this eliminates one of your methods for getting Rhyperior for the Pokedex or your team.

Dipplin's method of evolving into Hydrapple differs from the rest of the Applin-line, so if you want to evolve it, you'll need the help of TM 226.

Where to Find Rhyhorn & Rhydon

Savanna Biome

Rhyhorn may very well be one of the first Pokemon you see when you enter Terarium. It can be spotted charging through the fields of the Savanna Biome. It's an extremely easy Pokemon to find, so you shouldn't have any problems tracking one down. If you want to skip catching Rhyhorn, you can look for Rhydon in the western side of Savanna Biome. Specifically, Rhydon tend to spawn next to the border separating the Savanna Biome and the Canyon Biome.

You can also find Rhyhorn and Rhydon in 3-star Tera Raids and 4-star Tera Raids respectively, but only in Terarium. Rhyhorn will be level 35 if caught from a 3-star Tera Raid, and Rhydon will be level 45 when caught from the 4-star Tera Raids.

How to Get Rhyperior in Indigo Disk

To evolve Rhydon, you will need to trade Rhydon while it's holding a Protector. As long as you have this item and can trade with other players, Rhydon can be evolved at whatever level you wish. The Protector is an evolution item that can be obtained through three different methods in Indigo Disk:

  1. Pick one up at the Savanna Biome, directly south from the Savanna Plaza, on the ground in front of the far wall. Refer to the orange objective flag on the above image for the exact location.
  2. Register 160 Pokemon in the Blueberry Pokedex, and obtain the Protector as a Dex Reward.
  3. Buy one for 250BP at the Blueberry Academy's School Store.

You can also catch a Rhyperior in 5/6-star Tera Raids. Remember that 6-star Tera Raids will unlock after you've completed the Academy Ace Tournament and completed a few of the 5-star Tera Raids. Professor Jacq will contact your character when 6-star Tera Raids start appearing in Paldea, Kitakami, and Terarium.

If you have a Nintendo Online Membership, you can access Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's online features - that includes trading. The lowest cost is 3.99 for a month.

To trade, go into the Poke Portal in the pause menu, or to a Union Circle at the Pokemon Centers, and choose Link Trade. You can either Set Code or input a Code from the person you are trading with. Choose Rhydon to trade, but make sure that it's holding the Protector item. Otherwise, it won't evolve after being traded over.

How to Get Rhyperior without Trading

Transferring with Pokemon HOME

pokemon-rhyperior-(1)-1

If you don't have a Nintendo Online Membership or don't want to buy one, then you'll need to transfer a Rhyperior from another Pokemon game. This can be from Pokemon GO, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Sword & Shield, or Legends: Arceus. Pokemon can be transferred by using Pokemon HOME on the Switch.

Since Rhydon's evolution method is the same in BDSP and SwSh, your best chance is to evolve it fully to Rhyperior in Legends: Arceus or Pokemon GO. Here's how to evolve Rhydon in both games:

  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Use the Protector item on Rhydon to make it evolve. Protectors can be found in space-time distortions, or they can be bought for 1400 Merit Points (MP) at the Trading Post near Galaxy Hall in Jubilife Village.
    • You can also catch a wild Rhyperior in the Sacred Plaza or Celestica Trail in the Coronet Highlands.
  • Pokemon GO - Catch and evolve Rhyhorn into Rhydon, or catch a wild Rhydon. Then, evolve Rhydon with 100 Rhyhorn Candies and a Sinnoh Stone. Sinnoh Stones are sometimes given as rewards for Special Research Tasks or Research Breakthroughs.

If you're transferring Rhyperior from Legends: Arceus:

  1. You'll need to place it in a Pasture, save and exit, then go into Pokemon HOME on the Switch.
  2. Access your Legends: Arceus file in HOME to move Rhyperior from a Pasture to one of HOME's Basic Boxes.
  3. Open Scarlet/Violet (in HOME) to move it from Basic Box to a PC Box. Save changes and exit.

If you're transferring from Pokemon GO:

  1. You'll do the same thing as you would when transferring from HOME to Scarlet/Violet, but you'll need to transport Rhyperior in GO.
  2. To do this, tap the Poke Ball icon on the main screen, then select Settings.
  3. Go down to Connected Devices and Services, choose Pokemon HOME, then select Rhyperior and transfer it over to HOME.
  4. Next time you log into HOME on the Switch, it will alert you of Pokemon from GO that can be moved to a Basic Box.
