In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, players can discover Tera Crystals around the open map as they travel from one location to another. By interacting with these Tera Crystals, you can trigger battles with randomized Terastallized Pokemon to potentially capture them and earn numerous other rewards. This has made Tera Raids one of the most popular ways to not only farm for valuable resources such as EXP Candies, but also to capture powerful Pokemon and potentially a rare Tera Type.

During the months of May and June, 2025, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are hosting an in-game event involving Garchomp. During this time, players are more likely to encounter a special Garchomp at Black Crystal Tera raids that will come with a Mightiest Mark. These are rare Pokemon that can only be captured once per save, making them a popular collectible for gamers. This unique Garchomp can only be caught once per save file. If you previously captured it during a past Tera Raid Battle event, you won’t be able to catch it again. However, you can still join Tera Raid Battles against this Garchomp to earn other rewards, even if you’ve already added it to your collection.

While players can encounter these Tera Crystals in the wild, they will need to meet some prerequisites in order for them to show up around the map. First, players will need to beat the Scarlet and Violet main story and Academy Ace Tournament. Doing so will unlock 5-Star Tera Raids, which you should then head to and start farming for a while. After completing a few Raids at this level, players will then unlock 6 and 7-Star Tera Raids, meaning Black Tera Crystals will now show up.

Garchomp Weaknesses, Resistances, & Best Counters, Explained

Garchomp In The Pokemon Anime

In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Garchomp is a Dragon and Ground Dual Type. With this Type combination, Garchomp is Resistant to Poison, Rock, Fire, and Electric Types. In particular, it is immune to Electric Type attacks, so players should avoid utilizing such monsters at all costs. On the other hand, Garchomp is weak to Fairy or Dragon, and Ice Types - taking double damage from Ice moves. However, this Gaerchomp has a Ground Tera Type, meaning Water and Grass Pokemon also become much more viable than usual for different purposes, too.

If you want to give yourself the best chance at taking down this powerful foe, you may wish to consider bringing some of the best possible counters to these Raid battles. Some of the most optimal choices have been outlined in the list below:

  • Stellar Tera Type Sinistcha
  • Orthworm
  • Intimidator Wo-Chien
  • Avalugg
  • Meadow Plate Arceus
  • Arboliva with Grassy Terrain
  • Special Attacker Gogoat
  • Skill Swap Malamar
  • Pelipper
  • Slowbro
