Summary

  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet receive update 4.0.0.
  • Update improves frame rate and resolution for Switch 2 players.
  • While the update's benefits are specific to Switch 2, it's a required download for Switch 1 owners to continue playing the game.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have received update 4.0.0 mere days before the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were highly criticized upon their release on the original Switch for performance problems. And while the games aren't getting special Switch 2 Edition upgrades, they will still perform better when played on the newer console.

This was recently showcased in a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Switch 2 performance video shared by Nintendo that showed the games running at 60 frames per second. Since performance problems were among the main criticisms levied at Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the enhanced Switch 2 performance should go a long way in improving the games' reputation.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Launch Mass Outbreak To Commemorate The Switch 2 Launch

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launches a limited-time Mass Outbreak event to commemorate the imminent arrival of the Switch 2 console.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can download a new update for the games right now that improves the frame rate and offers higher resolution when playing the game on the Switch 2. While the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet update is specific to Switch 2 gamers, it is still required for those on the original Switch if they want to enjoy online functionality. Not downloading the update means missing out on online multiplayer features, so Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players should make sure to download it ASAP, even if they aren't planning on buying a Switch 2 any time soon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's new update should be good news for those buying a Switch 2, but it doesn't mean much for Switch 1 gamers. On the bright side, there is still plenty for Switch 1 Pokemon fans to look forward to in the year ahead. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will launch for the original Switch on October 16, giving fans a brand-new adventure to enjoy in the style of Arceus.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also have a Switch 2 Edition that will include various performance enhancements and other upgrades that should be more substantial than the one for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Whereas the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Switch 2 upgrade was released for free, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be $10 more expensive on the Switch 2. Of course, since the Switch 2 is backward compatible with the Switch 1, early adopters can choose to buy the Switch 1 version if they want to save $10, but they'll be missing out on the benefits that come from playing the version specific to the new console.
