Summary
- Fan creates unique Pokemon TCG crossover card featuring Link from Zelda as Master Trainer
- Possibility of official Zelda and Pokemon crossover seems unlikely, but fans continue to imagine and create art.
A Pokemon and Zelda fan has shared a unique crossover card they've created for the Pokemon TCG game. The Pokemon TCG creation gives an interesting glimpse of what it could be like if the two game series released an official crossover collection.
Nintendo games often get the crossover treatment from fans with artistic creations like these. It's fairly common for fans to imagine the game worlds colliding, as Nintendo has released a number of games that bring together its various franchises, like Super Smash Bros. And Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While Pokemon TCG hasn't seen any official cards based off of games like Zelda, it's easy to see why fans could imagine that changing.
Generation 4 Pokemon Gets First Trading Card in Over 15 Years
A Pokemon that hasn't received a new card in a Pokemon TCG expansion for over 15 years is finally getting a new one in an upcoming release.
One fan of both franchises is JJuniorart, who created the Pokemon TCG crossover Zelda card. The creation is a Pokemon TCG Supporter Card, featuring Link as a Master Trainer. Link is depicted as his Breath of the Wild incarnation, showing him holding a Master Ball as his Pokemon Honedge floats in the picture behind him. The card, if used in an actual match, would lead to the player's own Pokemon doing 50 more damage if the opponent's Pokemon has a Darkness Energy attached to it. A second image shows some alternate poses and alternate Pokemon that Link could have appeared with.
Pokemon Fans Seem Excited For a Crossover
Fans in the comments have shared praise with the fan artist, not only complimenting the execution, but the idea. One suggested that this card could be part of a crossover expansion release, which they dubbed "Universes Beyond." Another pointed out that the card would work well in Pokemon TCG Pocket, which they say is overrun with "dark Darkrais" everywhere, to which the artist replied, stating that was the inspiration behind the card's effect.
While Pokemon TCG has crossed over with Pokemon GO in the past, bringing in a completely different franchise entirely seems unlikely to happen in the official game. That hasn't stopped gamers from mashing up Zelda and Pokemon, though. Fans have previously done things like turning Hyrule into a region of a Pokemon game, while others have recreated Pokemon battles within Tears of the Kingdom or adjusted Pokemon trainer sprites to look like Zelda characters.
While anything is possible in the future, for the moment, one of the only official ways to see Zelda and Pokemon characters interact is in Super Smash Bros. It seems unlikely that the Pokemon TCG will see crossovers like those in Magic: The Gathering anytime soon, but players will likely keep imagining the possibilities.
