There are many new good cards to discover in the recent Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion dubbed Wisdom of Sea and Sky, starting with the various baby Pokemon and how they make going first less of a burden, and going further with how Supporter cards like Silver are massive game-changers. With the way the game is built, Supporter cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket are often one of the single best additions to any deck, and sometimes they can win games more often than the actual Pokemon cards do. A great example is how Sylveon Ex became meta because it's Professor's Research built into a Pokemon card, and A4 does the same thing again.
There are several great Supporter cards in the game, such as Lillie from Celestial Guardians, which makes all Stage 2 cards inherently bulkier by being in a deck, as it heals them for 60 HP. Another example is Leaf, which reduces the retreat cost of the active Pokemon by two, making it easier to swap around with the bench, or Sabrina, which forces the opponent to switch their active Pokemon with another on the bench. Pokemon TCG Pocket's new Umbreon Ex card takes this to new heights, though, as its ability is essentially a free Cyrus.
Pokemon TCG Pocket's New S-Tier Deck is Even Nastier Than Darkrai & Giratina
Pokemon TCG Pocket has a new S-tier deck with the release of the Wisdom of Sea and Sky set, and it's even more toxic than Darktina.
Pokemon TCG Pocket's Best Dark-Type Deck Makes Umbreon Ex its Champion
Pokemon TCG Pocket's Cyrus Supporter is one of the best cards in the game because it allows players to specifically target benched Pokemon with damage on them and take them to the active slot, theoretically so that they can finish them off with an attack. This is an extremely powerful effect, and in most cases, it can be better than Sabrina, which has been a deck staple since Genetic Apex. Umbreon Ex may not have the best deck in the game right now, but it's arguably the best or second-best card in the game alongside Sylveon Ex.
Cyrus is normally used in many decks, and Pokemon TCG Pocket's A4 Umbreon Ex gives players access to a free version of its effect virtually every turn, as long as Umbreon Ex is in the active spot. This makes Umbreon Ex immediately very valuable from the get-go, and unlike Sylveon Ex's OP decks using it alongside Professor's Research, Umbreon Ex can give players enough room to remove Cyrus from their decks and use other Supporter cards. This is incredibly strong and opens up a lot of deckbuilding options for fans, and the fact that Umbreon Ex's OP ability came right after Sylveon Ex's own shows a clear pattern that DeNa may repeat.
Since Sylveon Ex and Umbreon Ex saw a lot of hype and play from the moment they were revealed and then made available, one could argue that there's a lot of interest in cards that have powerful, game-changing abilities inspired by Supporter cards. As such, including Umbreon Ex in Pokemon TCG Pocket's Wisdom of Sea and Sky card list right after Sylveon Ex was added with Eevee Grove may indicate that the next set will also include a new card with Supporter-inspired ability.
Technically, Wisdom of Sea and Sky added a Jumpluff card with an ability similar to that of Leaf, but while the effect is tied to retreat costs, it's not the same.
With so many fantastic Supporter cards in the game, DeNa is spoiled for choice. There are some Supporter cards that would be beyond fantastic if combined with a Pokemon card, though, and they are:
- Silver - Allows players to see the opponent's hand and shuffle a Supporter card from it into their deck
- Sabrina - Forces the opponent to switch their active Pokemon
- Giovanni - Makes the user's Pokemon deal 10 more damage for the turn
- Mars - The opponent shuffles their hand into their deck and draws 3 cards minus the number of victory points they have
Predicting Pokemon TCG Pocket's A4a Set and Chase Cards
It's currently unclear what kind of cards the next set will bring, but Pokemon TCG Pocket may add Mega Evolutions based on datamined images for shop items that include Mega Altaria. Other leaked items showcased Pichu, and they haven't been released yet, so it's likely that set A4a will expand on Gen 2 and Johto, maybe focusing on the Legendary Beasts - Suicune, Raikou, and Entei. Suicune would be the perfect candidate for an Irida-like ability, and it could finally take Water decks to the top of the meta.
