Best Lugia ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket, Explained

lugia ex and ho oh ex

Lugia ex is a powerful new ace Pokemon introduced through the Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion set. The main power of this card is the huge damage output that it can deal, requiring 3 Energy to dish out 180 damage, making it a huge threat in the late-game. However, the Energies are specifically a Water, Lightning, and Fire Type Energy, and will be discarded when the move is used. This makes Ho-Oh ex the perfect secondary ace to Lugia ex, as while it is in the Active Spot, it can use Phoenix Turbo to attach these three Energy to any Basic Pokemon on the bench — and Lugia ex counts as a Basic Pokemon.

For the early-mid game, Pichu and Raikou have been included. These Pokemon come in useful in the early game to help stall, and Pichu is useful as it can also attach Energy from the Energy Zone to Basic Benched Pokemon,. This means Pichu can also help to set up either Ho-Oh's Phoenix Turbo, or to slowly prepare Lugia's first Elemental Burst.

The remainder of the deck is completed with Support/Item cards to help this strategy run smoothly. You can be quite sneaky with Raikou use, sticking it on your bench and then using Phoenix Turbo to attach 3x energy to it too. Elemental Switch comes in handy for providing a second Energy trio for Lugia after the first lot has been discarded, enabling two back-to-back 180 damage hits, both of which have huge knockout potential. Sabrina and Guzma help to stall and allow time for equipping Energies. Leaf assists in switching your late-game aces into the Active Spot, and Giant Cape + Irida provide them with enhanced survivability once they are in this spot.
