Summary
- Some Pokemon TCG Pocket players are calling for DeNA to change the way community showcases work.
- Rather than displaying user-selected backgrounds and cards individually, some players would rather see them rendered together, much like they are on the owner's end.
- Pokemon TCG Pocket is still too new to be able to tell how receptive its developer will be to unsolicited player feedback of this sort.
Some Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket players have recently taken to social media to call for changes to the way the community showcases work. According to their complaints, Pokemon TCG Pocket's existing implementation of showcases is too generic.
The ability to show off cards and collections thereof has been part of the hit game's feature set since its beta days. And while community showcases serve as a secondary source of Pokemon TCG Pocket Shop Tickets, many players interacting with them are doing so just because they enjoy browsing other people's collections.
Some members of this demographic have recently banded together to call for changes to the way community showcases are presented. This sentiment was originally voiced by Reddit user AtomicBlue, who shared a rough mockup of a revised showcase screen where players' custom combinations of Pokemon TCG Pocket cards and backgrounds are actually rendered together, the way their owners see them. In reality, the game currently merely displays an array of images, depicting the background image next to a smaller thumbnail of a card that any given player has selected to pair with it.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Label Community Showcase UI as 'Wasted Space'
Elaborating on this train of thought, AtomicBlue described the current version of community showcases as "so much wasted space." Their post amassed hundreds of upvotes within hours of going live, consequently appearing on the front page of the r/PTCGP subreddit in early January 2025. Its social media momentum suggests that a vocal subset of Pokemon TCG Pocket players are in agreement with this assessment and would like to see DeNA revisit the way community showcases work.
These calls are far from the first instance of fans asking for changes to the hit mobile game. But since Pokemon TCG Pocket only came out in late October 2024, it's still too new to be able to tell how receptive its developers will be to unsolicited fan feedback of this sort. In the meantime, DeNA has recently revealed that it's planning on expanding Pokemon TCG Pocket with the addition of trading, which is currently on course to arrive before the end of January 2025.
The game is also expected to receive even more cards in the near future. Recent datamining efforts have indicated that the next Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion may land on January 29. The new set will reportedly be bigger than the Mythical Island expansion that debuted in mid-December 2024, and offer players a choice between three themed booster packs, similar to the Genetic Apex set.
