Even though Pokemon TCG Pocket's next expansion is not coming out for another week, the official teaser trailer for Eevee Grove did include some "spoilers" for the cards players can expect from the set, as per usual. This includes a series of Pokemon TCG Pocket cards dedicated to Eevee, which is the centerpiece of the expansion, as well as its Eeveelutions. Some questions remain, though, as the trailer shows Flareon Ex and Sylveon Ex, but it's unclear whether the other Eeveelutions will also get an Ex version or be left as regular rares. What is clear is that one of the cards from Eevee Grove will be a meta pick, possibly even more so than all the rest.
It's not uncommon for Pokemon TCG Pocket meta decks to include one or two new cards from a given set and make them great additions, if not outright the best cards in the entire deck. How Pokemon TCG Pocket's Penny Supporter Card Can Be a Game-Changer
Penny is a new Supporter card in Pokemon TCG Pocket's Eevee Grove set, which fits thematically thanks to her role in Gen 9 games, where she was given a full team of Eeveelutions. In the game, she doesn't really have a connection to Eevee and the various Eeveelutions, if not for a tiny detail, and instead, she is essentially a "copycat" card. Based on Eevee's malleable nature, Penny is a Supporter card that allows the user to look at Supporter cards in the opponent's deck, choose one that is not Penny, and copy its effects.
Why Penny is Going to Be Meta in Pokemon TCG Pocket
This is an incredibly strong effect for many reasons. Some of them are:
- Penny can copy Professor's Research in Pokemon TCG Pocket, which is already a card that every deck runs in two copies thanks to its drawing potential, meaning that Penny can potentially be a third or even fourth Professor's Research for the user depending on RNG and how many copies they use of these cards.
- Most Supporter cards are generic, in the sense that they are good in most decks and in most situations, with top picks being Sabrina, Cyrus, Iono, Mars, and so on. Copying these effects will almost always be beneficial.
- Penny provides invaluable information, as the user can see all the Supporter cards the opponent still has in their deck, allowing them to adapt their strategy or foresee potential tricks.
Only a small percentage of Supporter cards that are actually used in meta decks have specific targets or uses that Penny may not be able to copy or get some use from, such as type-specific Supporters. These are cards like Misty, Erika, Gladion, etc.
Why Pokemon TCG Pocket's Penny is Virtually Unbeatable
Since Penny can be virtually used in any deck, and since Supporter cards will always be used in every deck in the game, it's very difficult to find scenarios where Penny brings no value to a given match. Even if that happens, at the very least, using this card will have provided players with information regarding which Supporters the opponent has left in their deck, potentially reading plays like Pokemon TCG Pocket's Cyrus into a benched Pokemon to get easy points.
For these reasons, it's virtually impossible for Penny to be worthless in any deck, and if anything, it may become a staple in all Pokemon TCG Pocket meta decks moving forward and be used in one copy, if not two. This remains to be seen, but players may have found yet another must-have card for their decks.
