Pokemon TCG Pocket's latest themed expansion, Mythical Island, introduces a wide variety of new cards, despite only featuring 80 new cards total. While exciting additions like Mew EX and Celebi EX are clear standouts from the Mythical Island expansion, one card added to Pokemon TCG Pocket in this set might be flying under some players' radars. In a meta dominated by powerful EX cards, the Pokemon Flute trainer card could help popularize a new deck type that focuses on knocking out an opponent's benched cards rather than the one in their active slot.
Trainer cards tend to be the undersung backbone of a player's deck, offering abilities crucial to bringing out the deck's full power. So far, Pokemon TCG Pocket has seen its fair share of powerful trainer cards like Misty and Sabrina, and the Pokemon Flute card added in Mythical Island could be the next one to join the upper ranks of the game's trainer cards. While it may appear unassuming at first, players can combine its ability with a few different critters to wreak havoc on their opponent's bench.

How Pokemon Flute Lets Players Devastate the Opponent's Bench
Pokemon Flute's ability allows players to take one Basic Pokemon from their opponent's discard pile and put it on their bench. While this may seem like an ability that gives the opponent an edge, players can take advantage of lower-powered Basic Pokemon and cards that deal damage to the opponent's bench to quickly tear through their team. Setting this strategy up early can have a huge payoff, making Pokemon Flute a valuable card for players to include in their deck.
Pokemon TCG Pocket only allows players to have two of a specific card in their decks.
One way players can take advantage of Pokemon Flute's ability is to play it in a deck with cards like Seadra, Lumineon, and Articuno EX. All of these cards have the power to damage the opponent's benched Pokemon, potentially scoring a knockout while the opposing player is still setting up their strategy. Players can then use Pokemon Flute to ideally bring back a weak Basic Pokemon from the discard pile to their opponent's bench and repeat the same strategy until victory is achieved.
Pokemon Flute Pairs Perfectly with Victreebel
Another popular deck to play using Pokemon Flute involves manipulating the opponent's active Pokemon with Victreebel's Fragrance Trap ability. This ability allows players to switch their opponent's active Pokemon with one on their bench once per turn, as long as Victreebel is the player's active card. Doing so can potentially throw a wrench in an opponent's strategy by forcing them to switch out the EX card they've set up with a weaker Basic card and risk either taking a KO or wasting energy to pay the retreat cost of the Basic card that was dragged in.
What makes this Pokemon TCG Pocket deck so strong is that players can pair it with Pokemon Flute to bring that weak card they just knocked out back to their opponent's bench, swapping it back to the active position again with Fragrance Trap to set it up for another knockout. Victreebel has only one attack, Vine Whip, that deals 60 damage, so ideally, players will want to capitalize on an opponent's card that has 60 or less HP to carry out this strategy. While Victreebel is fairly tanky with 140 HP, it is also a second-stage card, meaning it may take some time to properly set this tactic up, but the potential payoff should be worth it as players can quickly sweep an opponent if played correctly.
