The second expansion for Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, named Mythical Island, will be released on December 17. As the mobile title continues to find massive success just over a month after its initial launch, Pokemon TCG Pocket players are eager for new cards to be added to the free-to-play game.

Released on October 30, Pokemon TCG Pocket tasks players with collecting cards by opening daily packs, as well as battling other users in a streamlined version of the popular tabletop game. Currently, the title offers around 250 cards for fans to collect, with a steady stream of unique events offering additional opportunities to snag those that are harder to pull. The developers previously announced that more booster packs would be added to Pokemon TCG Pocket by the end of 2024, and as the new year approaches, concrete details about these new cards are finally being shared with the community.

Mythical Island, the second expansion for Pokemon TCG Pocket, will be released on December 17, adding Pokemon from the Johto region to the popular mobile game. Five new EX cards and five new Trainer cards will be tossed into the mix as well, with around 80 additional cards in total for players to find. The Mythical Pokemon Mew will make its debut in the new set, along with fan favorites like Celebi, Dedenne, Marshadow, and Liepard. More special Pokemon TCG Pocket immersive cards will also be making an appearance, though it's unclear how many of these rare pulls will be added this time around.

While dozens of new cards are on the way soon, the Genetic Apex booster packs currently found in Pokemon TCG Pocket won't be removed just yet. While many mobile titles pander to a player's FOMO in order to earn money, Pokemon TCG Pocket appears to be avoiding this model for now, continuing to invite fans to seek out cards they're still missing from the game's inaugural set. In January 2025, limited trading will be introduced to the game, with the feature slowly rolling out over time.

Although Pokemon TCG Pocket is a free-to-play game, players can opt to purchase a $10 monthly pass to open an additional pack each day. They can also buy PokeGold to spend on in-game items, many of which are cosmetic. Less than three weeks after its release, Pokemon TCG Pocket managed to earn over $120 million globally, with Japanese players spending the most money on the mobile game on average. With the release of this new set, those numbers are likely to continue to soar.
