The patch notes for the next Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket update have leaked. The premature changelog surfaced online a day ahead of its accompanying Pokemon TCG Pocket patch.
The upcoming Pokemon TCG Pocket update will introduce Space-Time Smackdown, the game's third card expansion to date, which is mainly focused on Generation 4 pocket monsters. The patch is scheduled to roll out globally on Wednesday, January 29.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Has a Warning for Players
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket issues a warning to players mere days before launching its much-anticipated trading feature.
Some half a day ahead of the update's release, its complete patch notes have surfaced online. Rumor aggregator CentroLeaks helped them gain social media traction, albeit without citing the original source of the changelog. That notwithstanding, the fact that the patch notes include two Unix timestamps rather than a more user-friendly date format indicates that this leak either came from a Pokemon TCG Pocket datamine or the game's own website. The timestamps themselves correspond to the late evening hours (PST) on January 29, which is when the new expansion is scheduled to drop, according to the patch notes.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Trading Will Get Better—Eventually
The changelog also confirms the arrival of Pokemon TCG Pocket's trading support. As previously announced, the feature will initially be restricted to lower-rarity cards, denoted by up to four diamonds or a single star. Two- and three-star cards won't be tradeable, and neither will the gold cards labeled with a crown. Developer DeNA previously suggested these restrictions might change in the future, based on player feedback, having done so following public fan complaints about the game not allowing trading of its rarest cards. The newly leaked patch notes go one step further by outright promising that the pool of tradeable cards is planned to expand—eventually.
The changelog also highlights Pokemon Tools, a new subtype of Pokemon TCG Pocket Trainer cards arriving as part of the Space-Time Smackdown set. As that moniker suggests, tool cards can be given to Pokemon as equipment that stays on them for as long as they are in play. Most such items will offer a flat boost to the holder's stats, though some may have different effects. A Pokemon can only hold one tool at a time.
Aside from these features, the leaked changelog mentions logic improvements to the deck auto-building system, as well as minor text adjustments. New themed collections centered on the Space-Time Smackdown expansion are also part of the package, together with a series of "Step-up Battles." Pokemon TCG Pocket players can expect to see these patch notes in their in-game inbox on January 29.
