Summary
- Pokemon TCG Pocket is introducing trading with friends.
- Players express discontent over the inability to trade some rare cards.
- Developers request player feedback for potential system improvements.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has revealed more information about how the trading system will work. One of the features most requested by Pokemon TCG Pocket players since Day 1 is trading, which, like the other games in the franchise, will allow them to complete their collections.
After all, the first Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion, Genetic Apex, has over 200 cards players can pull. These cards are largely focused on Gen 1 Pokemon, featuring the original 151 and the eight Kanto Gym leaders. With the release of the Mythical Island mini-set at the end of last year, 86 new cards were introduced, 68 from the base set and 18 secret rares. The mini-set also marked the introduction of five new Pokemon ex, five Trainer cards, and the first appearances of the Gens 2 and 4 critters.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Features Multiple Throwbacks to Classic Games
A Pokemon TCG Pocket player finds cards with several references to classic games, and the community is delighted with the discovery.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has officially revealed more details about the trading requirements. In a post on Twitter, the developers said that trades will only be available between friends, and with cards of the same rarity. At launch, only selected cards from the Genetic Apex expansion and the Mythical Island mini-set will be able to be traded, meaning that the feature won't be as widespread. The devs have said that trades will be available for cards of diamond to crown rarity, in line with a previous Pokemon TCG Pocket leak. The announcement also revealed that players will need to consume an item to do trades, but didn't elaborate beyond that.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Reveals Trading Requirements, But Players Are Unhappy
Players have expressed their dissatisfaction with only being able to trade cards with friends. The impossibility of using the system to get the rarest Pokemon TCG Pocket cards, usually the community's “chase cards,” also didn't generate positive reactions. Others showed concern about the item required for trading, fearing that the function could be even more restrictive if the item had to be bought. Some players also noted the lack of information about the promo cards, which have a specific rarity, and it is unknown whether they can be traded or not.
While some players criticized the announcement, others argued that the requirements are a way to prevent abuse of the trading system. It's important to note that once trades debut in Pokemon TCG Pocket, the devs ask players to send feedback, which can turn into improvements for all players. The announcement also said that more cards could be traded in the future, but didn't say when this would happen. Finally, the devs shared that the next expansion will arrive later this month, confirming another Pokemon TCG Pocket leak.
