New rumors surrounding the third "Mega Evolution" era expansion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game may be suggesting that a popular Mega Pokemon is coming soon. The beloved trading card game branch of the massively popular monster-catching franchise brought a plethora of stunning and powerful cards for fans to collect and battle. "Mega Evolution" made its official debut late last week, bringing Mega Pokemon back to the Pokemon TCG for the first time in nearly a decade with fan favorites like Mega Gardevoir and Mega Lucario. Now, recent information is starting to tease one of the game's future sets.
While Mega Evolution has only recently released, The Pokemon Company has already started to give fans a teaser of what's to come throughout the rest of the year. "Phantasmal Flames" has already been confirmed as the second set of the game's Mega Evolution era, with the iconic Mega Charizard X serving as the cover Pokemon for the expansion. Several other Mega Pokemon like Mega Heracross, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Gengar have also been revealed as new additions to the expansion. New rumors are now setting up the third set with some exciting Pokemon on the way.
New Pokemon TCG Live Code Gives Full Art Card of Classic Starter Pokemon
A brand-new distribution code from Pokemon Trading Card Game Live is giving fans a pair of free full-art cards, including a beloved Starter Pokemon.
As reported by PokeBeach, new information has begun to surface about some of the starring Pokemon in the third expansion of the TCG's "Mega Evolution" cycle. The set, expected to be named "Storm Emeralda," recently saw confirmation from store listings that Mega Zygarde ex will serve as one of the featured Pokemon for the expansion. The use of "Emeralda" in the title has also led to heavy speculation that a "Mega Rayquaza ex" may be featured within the set, likely as a highlight Pokemon. Storm Emeralda is currently expected to release in Japan in January 2026.
Pokemon TCG May Be Adding Mega Rayquaza
The addition of Mega Rayquaza to the Pokemon TCG would see one of the most powerful Mega Pokemon make its triumphant return to the game. Mega Rayquaza was dominant in the TCG following its original release in the "Roaring Skies" expansion, with the deck seeing a Top 8 finish at the 2016 US National Championships. Mega Rayquaza was similarly dominant in the video games during the X & Y era, seen as powerful enough to be banned from high-tier tournaments.
Fans of the Pokemon TCG should have lots to look forward to throughout the rest of 2025, with multiple exciting releases coming. The Pokemon TCG will welcome one more major set release in 2025 with the previously-mentioned "Phantasmal Flames," set to arrive during the holiday season on November 14. Pokemon is also gearing up to introduce a brand-new rarity to the game, with the Japanese "Mega Dream ex" expansion set to add the new "Mega Attack Rare" rarity. With a brand-new era beginning for the Pokemon TCG, the card game looks to have plenty in store for fans.
