One hard-thinking Pokemon fan thinks they may have figured out the starters for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The second in the Legends spin-off series, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is slated for a 2025 release, but there are still a lot of mysteries surrounding it.
The upcoming game for Nintendo Switch was announced in February 2024 as the grand finale of a Pokemon Presents presentation. While it's been clear from the start that the game will be set in the Kalos Region and will follow a similar gameplay format to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, fans have been left to ponder a lot of the game's secrets on their own, including predicting the Pokemon Legends: Z-A starters.
One fan believes they've figured out those starters, and they found them in an Advent calendar, of all places. The Pokemon TCG Holiday Calendar was released on August 23, containing a variety of fun surprises to open over the course of December, including seven three-card Fun Packs for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. One Reddit user claims to have purchased and already opened their Advent calendar and has reported that the cover of the Fun Packs feature images of Gen-2 Water starter Totodile, Gen-4 Grass starter Turtwig, and Gen-7 Fire Starter Litten. These three Pokemon, they claim, will be the starters for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and they've shared some interesting context for this theory.
Pokemon Legends Z-A Starters May Be Totodile, Turtwig, and Litten
Three-card Fun Packs aren't standard for the trading card game, as most booster packs contain 10 cards apiece. Looking through previous covers of fun packs, the Pokemon fan discovered the Astral Radiance Fun Packs, whose cover was graced by Rowlet, Oshawatt, and Cyndaquil, the three Pokemon who showed up as the starters for Pokemon Legends: Arceus. However, the Astral Radiance card line wasn't released until May 27, 2022, almost a full four months after the launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, so those three starters already had a justifiable reason for being featured together. The first Pokemon TCG Advent calendar was released for the 2022 holiday season, so Legends: Arceus predates it as well.
Whichever Pokemon end up starting out the next adventure with players, the return of the Legends spin-off series is holding a lot of fans in anticipation. As fans continue to try to guess the starters, it's worth noting that this may not be the biggest mystery surrounding the game, as there is still plenty of speculation from those trying to narrow down Pokemon Legends: Z-A's release window.
