Pokemon Unite is a MOBA based on the idea of Pokemon scoring goals against an enemy team in a sport-like game stadium. Players can battle it out and rack up KOs, but victory in Pokemon Unite is ultimately determined by which team scored the most points in the opposing goals. The scoreboards during a match and afterward don't exactly make it clear where a team stands, though. This guide will explain exactly how the scoreboard works in Pokemon Unite.

Pokemon Unite Confirms 3 More Pokemon Coming to the Roster

Pokemon Unite confirms the addition of three new characters, bringing a trio of Pokemon very popular with fans to Aeos Island.

Players can level up against wild Pokemon and battle the opponent to their heart's content, but they will inevitably lose if they let the other team score more than they do. The only way to ensure that the opponent doesn't accumulate a high score is by learning how to block a goal. It's hard to determine the current score during a match using the scoreboard alone, so the safest bet is to always make sure a solid defense is in place.

Updated on October 27, 2024 by Rhenn Taguiam: With Darkrai getting more buffs in its Pokemon Unite gameplay, fans of the Melee Special Speedster Pokemon will now enjoy more HP, Defense and Special Defense - transforming this beast into a more effective juggernaut in prolonged combat encounters. Its high damage, high mobility, and decent crowd control can transform team fights into a breeze provided players can find a workaround for Darkrai’s frail nature. However, before players go all-in for their Pokemon Unite experience, they may want a quick recap on how exactly the Scoreboard functions in the game - especially when the Scoreboard shows different things during and after the match. Just how can players maximize the Scoreboard for their experience?

Understanding The Scoreboard During A Match

No Immediate Information, But Useful For Basic Stats

Players can check the scoreboard at any time during gameplay. This is done with the Plus button on the Nintendo Switch version of the game or through the hamburger icon beside the settings on the upper-right part of the screen on mobile. When knocked out, the Review button below the countdown also indicates the total score.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to look at the point count during the match. However, the game does reveal some interesting stats at the onset:

  • Knockdowns: The enclosed fist icon shows how many Pokemon each player on either side of the team has knocked down during the match.
  • Assists: This reveals how many times a Pokemon has assisted in taking down an opposing side Pokemon.
  • Movelist: A more interesting part of the in-match Scoreboard is the revelation of what current Moves every Pokemon possesses. Players aware of

Score Check Mid-Match: Analyze The Goal Zones

The best way to get an estimate of the score during the match is to analyze how many scores were depleted from each goal as of the moment. To recap, these are:

  • Outer Goal: 80
  • Inner Goal: 100
  • Base Goal: Infinite

This method becomes unreliable when Rayquaza or Zapdos appear, however, as this part in the endgame allows for either side to exceed points that the goals allow.

Score Check Mid-Match: Analyze The In-Game Text

Players who want to have an inkling on their current point count might not be able to do so during the match, but actively scoring can make the game trigger a text that implies how far their score is compared to the enemy’s. This is especially the case when the players manage to destroy a Goal Zone or plug in a lot of points.

Understanding The Scoreboard After A Match

Shows More Definitive Stats Throughout The Match

When the match ends, the post-game Scoreboard reveals a more detailed perspective on what happened throughout the match. This now reveals how many points the player scored throughout the match aside from their Knockdowns and Assists. This rating now includes:

  • Team Score: This is the final score the team managed to have when the match ended.
  • Level: This is the final Level your Pokemon had when the match ended.
  • Score: This indicates how many points the player scored throughout the match in the enemy goal zone.
  • Rating: This is the final rating of the player based on their overall performance.

Unfortunately, the number of Knockdowns or Assists that players have don’t have an impact on the overall Team Score. However, they may influence the kind of Medals that players earn.

How Is The Player Rating Calculated?

While Pokemon Unite gameplay doesn’t provide any guide on how the final player rating is calculated, there are certain parts of the match that might be taken into account when determining this final score:

  • Damage Interactions: Depending on the type of Pokemon players have, it seems damage dealt by Attackers or damage taken by Defenders are factors in determining their potential for MVP - basically, their commitment to their role.
  • Knockdowns, Assists: Pokemon interactions in fights seem to be taken into account, particularly if a Pokemon focuses too much on acting alone or is cooperative with the rest of the pack. Team-based fights are incentivized, as it seems high-Assist/low-Knockdown Pokemons have an edge compared to the contrary.
  • Points Scored: Low-scoring Pokemon rank lower compared to their high-scoring counterparts. Likewise, it seems interrupting enemies while scoring can also increase one’s odds of being MVP.
  • Killing Bosses: Taking out Zapdos and Rayquaza seem to have an effect on how players earn their MVP badge.
