Summary

  • Everybody 1-2-Switch! Made it to Australia's Top 10 game sales, surprising many with its success.
  • Speculation surrounds the game's sudden rise to the top spot, with theories of mass retailer sales.

Everybody 1-2-Switch! Has made it to Australia's Top 10 combined software sales from July 22 to July 28 of 2024. The title was the sequel to the quirky mini-game compilation 1-2-Switch. Both games utilize the Joy-Con in unique ways in the form of bite-sized games that two players can enjoy with one another.

Even in the early days of development, some fans believed that a 1-2-Switch sequel was unnecessary. Some reviewers believed that the original title had "dull, lifeless, forgettable" mechanics, and that the game was gimmicky in nature. Although, it was also stated by a few that the family-friendly nature of the mini-games meant that it was a good way to showcase the Joy-Con's capabilities. Not surprisingly, the sequel Everybody 1-2-Switch! Also got similar comments for being more of what the original offered, thereby receiving mediocre reviews as well.

However, in a bit of surprise news, Australia's Top 10 combined software charts for Week 30 saw Everybody 1-2-Switch! Take the top spot. This meant that from July 22 to July 28, 2024, the title had the most sales for game purchases across all consoles. It beat games like Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K24, and even new titles like EA Sports College Football 25. That's a pretty impressive achievement for a game that was originally thought of as a poor sequel to Nintendo's worst-rated game.

Australian Top 10 Combined Software Charts (Week 30)

  • Everybody 1-2-Switch!
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • NBA 2K24
  • EA Sports College Football 25
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Elden Ring
  • Advance Wars 2: 1+2 Re-Boot Camp!
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

While it remains a mystery as to why Everybody 1-2-Switch! Suddenly topped the charts, a few people speculated that the game had been sold off in large quantities to retailers. Some guesses were that sellers might be preparing to put the title up on sale, even going as far as assuming that it was for Black Friday or a similar discounted event. Granted, it's not impossible for games to get back to the top of the charts. Old titles such as Friday the 13th: The Game managed to get back to the bestsellers list just before its eventual delisting.

For what it's worth, many do consider Everybody 1-2-Switch! And 1-2-Switch as titles which best utilize the HD Rumble on Switch games. There aren't a lot of titles which prioritize non-visual clues. And while most would deem the mini-games included as boring or repetitive, they are really quite the most unique set of activities that a group of people can enjoy for a short span of time. Perhaps that is the reason as to why the game is slowly receiving a huge shift in terms of sales.
