It's been almost four years since Poppy Playtime burst on the scene with its terrifying take on the mascot horror genre. The latest chapter, Poppy Playtime Chapter 4: Safe Haven, takes the story to its crescendo as the unnamed protagonist explores more of the deeper parts of the Playtime Co. Factory. Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 is also believed to be the penultimate chapter of the popular horror series.

On June 25, Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 will officially be available on consoles. Since launching in January 2025, the fourth chapter has only been available to play on PC, but fans can soon expect it on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch. The newly-launched Switch 2 isn't on the list yet, but developer Mob Entertainment has a chance to jump on the opportunity given the success of games on the platform.

The Poppy Playtime Series Will Make a Great Addition to Switch 2's Library

The new Switch 2 launched on June 5 to record-breaking sales in its first week. So far, the top three selling games for the handheld console have been Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with many other new titles and updated game editions coming in the next few months. Meanwhile, in terms of the Switch 2's power, it's said to be comparable to the Xbox Series S, but with 2GB more RAM and equipped with newer Wi-Fi capabilities.

With the majority of the Poppy Playtime series currently available on the Switch and the fourth chapter on its way later this month, it would only make sense for Mob Entertainment to port them onto the Switch 2 as well. Built with a 7.9-inch Full HD LCD screen and a max frame rate of 120FPS, the Switch 2's upscaling quality could further enhance Poppy Playtime's scares, like the Huggy Wuggy chase in the first chapter and the Doey the Doughman battle in the latest game, and the eerie atmosphere of the Playtime Factory's many areas. The Switch 2's advanced performance specs could also make the overall gameplay smoother and more immersive; after all, practically every Switch game benefits from being played on the Switch 2 with numerous games seeing much better performance without proper Switch 2 editions.

Plus, a possible Switch 2 port could spell good news for the fifth Poppy Playtime chapter, which may be the final chapter in the series. Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 has already teased a big face-off against the Prototype, who is positioned to be the main antagonist in the entire story because of how it collects the remains of the sentient toys. It's quite possible that the Prototype battle might happen in the next game, potentially bringing Poppy Playtime's story to an exciting end. At the same time, it could still go the Five Nights of Freddy's route of expanding the universe with more spin-off games and other forms of media, but that remains to be seen.

The Bigger Bodies Initiative is Playtime Co.'s human experimentation project where scientists basically turn kids into sentient toys. These include Poppy Playtime's well-known characters like Huggy Wuggy, Catnap, and even Poppy herself.

If it's true that Poppy Playtime Chapter 5 is indeed the final game in the series, then Mob Entertainment has more reason to up the ante --not just in terms of gameplay and story, but the overall experience. Making it available on consoles, especially the Switch 2, upon launch would be one of the ideal ways of accomplishing this to ensure that it has stellar performance. If not, at least most Switch games are still compatible to play on the Switch 2, so fans can still enjoy the series with their brand-new handheld device.
