Summary

  • Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 has committed to a January 2025 release window.
  • The new episode will initially only be available via Steam.
  • Chapter 4 promises to be the darkest Poppy Playtime episode to date.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 is set to arrive in January 2025, Mob Entertainment has announced. The St. Louis, Missouri-based developer also shared some new details about the game's next episode, which will first be offered exclusively to Steam users.

Poppy Playtime is a survival horror game built around exploring pediophobia, the fear of dolls and other humanoid inanimate objects. Its inaugural episode debuted in October 2021, and was followed by Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, which were originally released in May 2022 and January 2024, respectively.

Scary dolls aren't just a feature in certain horror movies. These unsettling mascots are terrifying in video games too.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 Coming in January 2025

Mob Entertainment plans to follow up on that episode with Poppy Playtime Chapter 4, which it just announced will hit the market in January 2025, in addition to sharing its first teaser trailer. The developer says fans can expect the darkest and most unsettling installment to date, vowing to introduce plenty of terrifying characters and further expand on Poppy Playtime's lore. To that end, Chapter 4 players will be able to learn more about Playtime Co. And explore new levels that will aim to continue experimenting with a variety of gameplay mechanics intended to create fresh horror scenarios that make them feel defenseless.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 Will Introduce a New Villain

While the toothy blue doll Huggy Wuggy has been synonymous with the 2021 horror game from day one, Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 will also introduce a new villain. Mob Entertainment CEO Zach Belanger previously told The Best War Games that this antagonist is planned to take "every unique advantage of being a Poppy Playtime toy monster" and terrify players with every aspect of its being. Belanger also promised that the upcoming chapter will set a new standard for the level of quality and optimization that Mob Entertainment delivers on day one.

Based on what the developer has teased to date, it would appear that Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 will once again allow players to explore Playtime Co., a creepy toy factory that is at the center of the game's disturbing plot. In terms of content, fans can expect an experience that's slightly shorter than Chapter 3, which took roughly six hours to beat on average and was hence the game's longest episode to date.

Steam users will be able to wishlist Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 later today, September 30. As was the case with the first three episodes, this upcoming one will initially only launch via Valve's storefront. But seeing how the previous Poppy Playtime episodes were also ported to the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices, it is presumably only a matter of time before Chapter 4 makes its way to even more platforms.
