After three chapters, Poppy Playtime continues its terrifying tale with its upcoming fourth chapter. The mascot horror title is going even deeper into the Playtime Co. Factory, where more monsters await Poppy Playtime's protagonist.

Developer Mob Entertainment recently released trailers teasing Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4's new characters, including a colorful creature called Yarnaby. But beneath the cute exterior is another Eldritch horror that might terrorize the protagonist in the depths of the factory.

Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4 Amps Up the Horror With Yarnaby

poppy-playtime-chapter-4-yarnaby-in-shadows

Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4 is said to be the darkest chapter because it will explore the depths of Playtime Co. Initial teasers showed a large trash heap of some sort that had piles of discarded Smiling Critters β€” with some living Critters even cannibalizing their own in order to survive β€” and other dark creatures, like Yarnaby.

Yarnaby is a lion-like toy produced by Playtime Co., which has a rainbow mane made of yarn and a seemingly long, slender body. He is also one of the vessels used in the Bigger Bodies Initiative, a Playtime Co. Project where doctors unethically harvest orphans' organs to create organic experiments modeled after the company's toys.

In Chapter 4 Icepick ARG, a document identifies Yarnaby as an orphan named Quinn Navidson, who was selected to be part of the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Likewise, a prisoner profile signed by Dr. Harley Sawyer states that Yarnaby, aka Experiment 1166, is a strong and agile creature with complex reasoning and tends to feel attached to his caretakers. Sawyer took advantage of this attachment and isolated Yarnaby from others, only allowing him to speak with the doctor with the goal of training the life-sized toy to become his personal bodyguard.

  • Yarnaby: Also known as Quinn Navidson, Yarnaby is given the prisoner code Experiment 1166 in the Biggee Bodies Initiative.

Now, Yarnaby sits quietly in the depths of Playtime Co., possibly attacking anyone he's unfamiliar with. His round face also opens up to show lines of teeth and multiple mouths, which is the stuff of nightmares. It's likely that the protagonist might face Yarnaby in a boss battle or get chased in one of Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4's levels. The image of the toy's sharp horrifying appearance and sharp set of teeth are hopefully enough to spook fans of the series. It's also possible that Yarnaby might be a harmless monster toy, especially if he was originally friendly with people before Sawyer isolated him.

Apart from Yarnaby, the other sentient toys in Poppy Playtime, like Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy, are also results of the Bigger Bodies experiments.

How Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4 Connects to Chapter 3

The end of Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3 sees the protagonist and Poppy riding an elevator down to the depths, while Kissy Missy mans the controls before following them. However, an unknown creature attacks Kissy, prompting Poppy to go back in hopes of rescuing her companion.

It's still unknown if Kissy will show up in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4, but it is possible that the protagonist might go up against the entity that attacked Kissy. Many fans think that the mysterious entity could be the Prototype, which is considered one of the first successful experiments and has been taking the remains of dead toys.

Yarnaby, along with other new characters like Baba Chops and the Nightmare Critters, could be the henchmen of Chapter 4's main boss, and the protagonist will have to defeat and/or outsmart them to move forward with their mission. It will be interesting to see how the new characters will help uncover more mysteries in Poppy Playtime, especially about the disturbing Bigger Bodies Initiative.
