Mob Entertainment has launched a new Fortnite experience called Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials. The free-to-play release offers a condensed version of the Poppy Playtime universe within Fortnite, presented as a multiplayer experience featuring dynamic objectives and varied collectibles, among other features.
Not long following its 2021 release, Poppy Playtime became a viral phenomenon thanks to its creepy atmosphere, memorable monsters, and compelling, discussion-inciting lore. After establishing itself as one of the most successful indie horror titles in recent years, the episodic game led to multiple spin-offs, with Mob Entertainment currently working to expand the franchise into new areas.

Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials Now Available in Fortnite
As part of these efforts, the Missouri-based developer has now released a new Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) experience in the form of Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials, which can be accessed via map code 7441-2135-1198. The custom level pack supports up to four players, challenging them to escape rotating levels filled with puzzles and monsters—including the iconic Huggy Wuggy—alike. It is designed as a bite-sized version of the Poppy Playtime universe, allowing players to utilize equipment staples such as Grab Hands and Grab Packs to solve various challenges while running for their life.
Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials rewards successful runs with coins that can be used for unlocking themed Grab Hand cosmetics and upgrades to stamina and speed. Progress persists across gameplay sessions and is tied to one's Epic Account. Escape Trials' environments are based on the early Poppy Playtime chapters, including areas like the Game Station and Factory.
Apart from Huggy Wuggy, the newly launched experience incorporates multiple other Poppy Playtime monsters, namely the Smiling Critters. Collectible lore drops in the form of notes and audio tapes are also part of the package, promising to "deepen" the series' universe. The custom island maps are semi-randomized, with each run introducing new secrets for players to uncover. Combined with the lightweight RPG elements and a rotating selection of levels, Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials appears well-equipped to deliver substantial replay value.

While designed for Fortnite, Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials does not constitute a crossover. Mob Entertainment designed it on its own, with Epic Games not endorsing the project, the studio said in a prepared statement. However, an official Poppy Playtime and Fortnite crossover has recently been teased for October 23. The growing horror franchise just spawned a similar promotion in the form of a Minecraft add-on, which turns Mojang's evergreen sandbox game into a bona fide survival horror experience. Both the Minecraft add-on and Escape Trials seek to extend the reach of Poppy Playtime through new formats, effectively serving as interactive marketing.
