Crossovers have been a part of the entertainment industry since the Universal monsters first teamed up in 1943's Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, but they've become a much more prominent part of modern pop-culture thanks to the rise of cinematic universes like the MCU. Over the last few decades, this widespread love of crossovers has seeped into the gaming world, with Super Smash Bros. And, more recently, Fortnite leading the charge with their countless collaborations. But somehow, PowerWash Simulator is giving them all a run for their money.
Released in 2022, PowerWash Simulator sees players use the titular tool to hose down an environment and use the money gained from the job to upgrade their arsenal. It's a super simple, accessible, and relaxing gameplay loop, and it's led to PowerWash Simulator gaining quite a strong following over the last few years, so much so that it's been able to bring in some pretty big collaborations.
Every PowerWash Simulator Collaboration DLC Explained
Tomb Raider
Released back in January 2023, PowerWash Simulator's free Tomb Raider DLC was the first major collaboration to come to the unassuming Square Enix-published title. This Tomb Raider DLC set a precedent that every subsequent PowerWash Simulator crossover would follow, with it adding five new levels based on the iconic video game franchise, all of which take place in Lara Croft's family manor house.
Final Fantasy
Released in March 2023, PowerWash Simulator's Final Fantasy-themed "Midgar Special Pack" was another free crossover DLC. As the name implies, this DLC saw players clear the grime away from some iconic locations from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, including Avalanche's Seventh Heaven headquarters, the Shinra HQ's showroom floor, and the Mako Energy Exhibit. Players can also hose down some iconic FF7 vehicles and bosses, like the Hardy Daytona bike, Scorpion Sentinel, and Airbuster.
SpongeBob SquarePants
The first paid PowerWash Simulator crossover DLC, the SpongeBob SquarePants Special Pack adds the eponymous sentient sponge's hometown of Bikini Bottom to the game. This crossover DLC brought six new levels to the game, along with a new themed outfit for the player-character that helped them fit a bit better into the cartoon world of SpongeBob.
Back to The Future
Rounding out a busy 2023, PowerWash Simulator's Back to the Future crossover DLC was added in November of last year. Despite costing the same $7.99 as the SpongeBob DLC, this Back to the Future Special Pack reduced the number of levels back down to five and didn't come with a new themed outfit for the player-character. However, its stages are a bit more complex, taking players to the Hill Valley Clocktower and beyond.
Warhammer 40,000
A bizarre but great crossover, PowerWash Simulator added a Warhammer 40,000 Special Pack in February of this year. Taking on the role of an Adeptus Mechanicus worker – and given an outfit to boot – this Warhammer 40K DLC has players washing down an array of iconic vehicles ripped right out of the grim-dark universe. This DLC also gave players a themed skin for their washer, making it look like one of 40K's metallic Bolters.
Alice in Wonderland
Though it isn't based on any specific adaptation, PowerWash Simulator's recent Alice and Wonderland DLC is technically a collaboration with the original 1865 novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. An incredibly bright and even psychedelic DLC, this crossover is arguably PowerWash Simulator's best yet, thanks to some really varied and appealing cleaning locations.
Shrek
Announced just a few days ago, PowerWash Simulator's next crossover DLC will be with DreamWorks' Shrek. Set for a Fall 2024 release date, this Shrek crossover DLC will add a knight skin, a sword-like washer cosmetic, and five levels based primarily on the first two Shrek movies.
