A producer at Capcom has denied the fan theory that Pragmata is secretly a Mega Man game. While fans finally have another trailer and an updated release window for the upcoming sci-fi action-adventure title, many of the game's details are still a mystery. Naturally, speculation around Pragmata's plot and potential connections to other games has filled the silence, but Capcom has poured cold water on one rumor.

The mysterious third-person title hasn't had the easiest dev cycle. Capcom delayed Pragmata twice and remained relatively quiet about it after the game's initial announcement, inciting both curiosity and frustration from fans. The company has since clarified that Pragmata will come out in 2026 and has been featuring the game more heavily in marketing materials, but the additional information hasn't stopped rumors and theories from swirling.

October 10 is Going to Be a Big Day for Capcom Fans

Fans of Capcom and its video game franchises want to keep an eye on October 10, as it's shaping up to a big day for the gaming giant.

Capcom Clarifies That Pragmata Is Not a Mega Man Game

In a conversation with VGC, producer Naoto Oyama laughed upon hearing the fan theory that Pragmata is secretly a Mega Man game and denied its validity. According to Oyama, Pragmata is "a completely new game" for Capcom, so any apparent connections to other franchises are likely either coincidental or little more than an Easter egg. That means Pragmata's Resident Evil-esque zombie enemies aren't a sign of any ties to that series, either.

While the Mega Man theories may not be true, it's easy to see where they come from. Pragmata takes place on the moon, features corrupted robot enemies, and has a main character, Diana, who's a humanoid robot with a lot of blue in her design. While all of those are surface-level connections, Capcom has said Mega Man is one of its most important IPs but hasn't released a mainline Mega Man game in years. Given that silence, it's only natural that fans hungry for new content will latch onto any potential sign, but unfortunately for the Mega Man faithful, it seems those "signs" were just wishful thinking.

Oyama did say he was happy to see Mega Man fans take an interest in Pragmata. Before working on this new game, Oyama was a producer on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, so there is a technically a tie between the games, even if there's no in-game connection. Anyone wanting to learn more about Capcom's latest project won't have to wait long, either. The Tokyo Game Show 2025 will feature a strong Capcom lineup, including Pragmata, so fans will want to keep their eyes on September 24 to get the latest information.
