A reliable Capcom insider has divulged some encouraging news about the gaming giant's long-absent sci-fi title Pragmata. While the update itself is small, it provides hope for fans who feared a potential cancelation of Pragmata - nearly five years after its initial reveal.
Since its mysterious debut at the June 2020 PlayStation Showcase, Pragmata has garnered quite a bit of intrigue from Capcom fans. Pegged as a sci-fi action adventure game with dystopian elements, Pragmata's reveal trailer prominently featured some type of cosmonaut searching for a girl in a deserted Times Square in New York City, with them ultimately ending up on the moon. Pragmata was originally slated for launch in 2022, but was delayed to 2023 in November 2021. Then, in 2023, Capcom announced an indefinite delay for Pragmata, and has been quiet about the game ever since.
PlayStation Fans Are Wanting Updates on Games That Were Announced Years Ago
Some PlayStation fans are wondering what's happening with a few games that were announced many years ago but are seemingly going nowhere.
Indefinite delays are rarely a positive sign for a game's development, leading to widespread speculation that Pragmata has gone the Deep Down route (vaporware). However, reputable Capcom insider Dusk Golem has renewed hopes among the Pragmata faithful. Over on Twitter, they recently alleged that Pragmata is "certainly still in development as of a few months ago," allaying growing concerns about the game being canceled. Dusk Golem has been accurate about various Resident Evil leaks in the past, so they clearly have some contacts at Capcom.
Pragmata Could Be "Something Special" From Capcom, Believes Insider
The insider also stated that they believe Pragmata will be "something special" once released. The exact intent behind this statement wasn't revealed, but it likely points to how unique Pragmata is when compared to recent Capcom releases. If anything, Pragmata bears more of a resemblance to Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding games than Capcom's prior work, with a lot of people even theorizing that the iconic director may have been involved in the former's development process. That doesn't seem to be the case, though, and as it stands, Pragmata is still targeting launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC - sometime in the future.
Given that Sony likely has marketing rights for Pragmata, the game may finally resurface at the rumored June 2025 State of Play, marking five years since it was originally announced during a PlayStation livestream. There's also the matter of the highly-anticipated next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series: Resident Evil 9. Rumors surrounding Resident Evil 9 have been cropping up for a long time, and speculation points to a reveal this summer. Should that be true, Capcom could be lining up a major one-two punch with Resident Evil 9 and Pragmata in the coming months.
