Summary
- Alien: Earth series will debut at least four new Alien species, including a flying and potentially eight-legged variety.
- The series may feature an apex Alien, expanding the Alien universe.
- Speculation surrounds new Alien species, including discussions on crossover potential with the Predator franchise.
On April 22, Earth Day, FX revealed that the upcoming Alien: Earth series will debut at least four new alien types. According to the trio of teasers and related material released by FX, fans may have a flying species of alien incoming, along with possibly an eight-legged variety. A potential spider type feels like a natural progression for a new species given the make-up of traditional Facehuggers — making for more creepy-crawly television that's perfect for the horror-focused Alien series.
This summer's Noah Hawley-run show will be set two years before the events of the first Alien film, and 27 years after Prometheus. Gathering lore from both films, along with shadows and dialogue from the teasers, fans can begin to theorize what these new Alien species might look like.

How Do We Know About Alien: Earth's New Xenomorph Species?
We're getting five different lifeforms. That's what the Alien: Earth Official 'Crate' teaser insists via a foreboding narrator. The narrator promises monsters, and the official 'Crate' promotional materials do not disappoint when teasing them. There's a Xenomorph featured in the teaser, which is one species most fans were already sure would appear in the series. The other handful of Alien monsters are the surprising stars of the show here.
Alien: Earth's Flying Xenomorph Species
The official Earth Day teaser for Alien: Earth features Neil deGrasse Tyson narrating the importance of protecting our world's diverse wildlife and ecosystems at all costs "before it's too late." The globe on screen then becomes translucent enough to reveal an Alien spawn gestating in the center of the planet.
The cocooning species presented here looks rather similar to the one in the center box of FX's Alien: Earth 'Crate' trailer. Looking at the 'Fear takes on new forms' poster for Alien: Earth, the same glowing box in the middle contains a more shadowy version of the larval monstrosity from Earth Day's teaser. The difference is, the Crate larva just might have a shadowy set of wasp-like wings to go with its yellow jacket body.
It could be the way the lights are positioned inside the crate that creates an illusion of thin, fluttering wings. But, upon further inspection, the crate is very much a standard cube. If the light aberrations which come to a singular point behind the head were not wings, they would imply the cage's shape is a sort of rhombohedron. The rhombohedron is unlikely, although everything regarding both the light and wings is just speculation at this point. So, maybe the crate is a cube and the monster is a Facehugger. Odds are, though, with five different Xenomorph species being introduced this summer, there are probably wings in that crate. Whatever ground-dweller has to try and evade that thing is definitely in trouble.
Alien: Earth's Other Possible New Species
Nowadays, it's safe to assume the Disney corporation likes making money. It also happens that Disney owns the rights to both the Predator and Alien franchises, which are both premiering this summer with new projects on Hulu, a Disney streaming platform. While Predator does have a high-profile film hitting theaters this November in Predator Badlands, the Predator franchise will also see an animated anthology called Killer of Killers film by the director of 2022's Prey. The anthology will debut in June, just before Alien: Earth.
Is there a world in which the production heads at Disney haven't discussed an Alien vs. Predator origin or inciting event among all the projects coming this year? It's very unlikely. With that, it wouldn't be outrageous to suggest one of these new species introduced in Alien: Earth might be a precious budding killer of killers himself.
What In The World is Species 37?
At the end of the Alien: Earth 'Gestation' teaser, a Weyland-Yutani Corp ship computer logs a new species being detected onboard. That species is listed as Species 37. The fantastically considered gestation of what's likely a non-Xenomorph depicts cocooning, retractable tails, and Facehugger-like silhouettes. The black goo which infests the host, technically identified as Chemical A0-3959X, is the same substance from Alien: Covenant and Prometheus. This substance produced the Deacon and Neomorph species.
With Alien: Earth taking place before the first Alien film and after Prometheus, the upcoming series could explore bioengineering experimentation on monsters leading up to the Xenomorph. Noah Hawley said that he wanted to pay special attention to the hosts that Chemical A0-3959X infects, via an interview on the Emmys red carpet. Given the unknowable science happening on that ship, along with the Aliens presented in the teaser, there could be a more humanoid variant playing host to a future abomination. Species 37 could be entirely unrelated to Xenomorphs. It could even be an apex Alien unrelated to the Predator franchise. Or, again, it could even be a prototypical Predator.
Weyland-Yutani is clearly up to some dastardly science aboard their wayward ship plummeting rapidly towards Earth. Whatever the science is, it certainly regards multiple species of aliens, and they likely include some fliers and adept hunters. Until we know for sure, we can only guess what on Alien: Earth is headed our way.
