Summary

  • Princess Peach: Showtime marks Princess Peach's return to the spotlight with new transformation abilities for a fresh gameplay experience.
  • The upcoming Switch 2 console could pave the way for a new Super Smash Bros. Game, potentially seeing Peach's moveset upgraded.
  • A new Super Smash Bros. Game could allow Peach to use moves based on her transformations in Princess Peach: Showtime.

It's rare to see Princess Peach star in her own game, and Princess Peach: Showtime is the first time the princess has taken a lead role since the Nintendo DS' Super Princess Peach. Peach's battle against the Sour Bunch leads her to take on new personas through her transformation abilities in Princess Peach: Showtime, giving her a skill set she's never had before. As such, the next Super Smash Bros. Game would be wise to update Peach's moveset accordingly, replacing some of her outdated moves with new ones from this latest title.

While a new Super Smash Bros. Game has yet to be announced, with the impending release of the Switch 2, it's likely that fans can expect to see a new entry in the series on Nintendo's new console. It will be hard for a game to follow up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's massive roster of characters, but one way a new entry could go beyond its predecessor is by updating the movesets for its core characters. With Princess Peach getting a wide variety of new skills thanks to Princess Peach: Showtime, it would be the perfect time to update her Super Smash Bros. Counterpart.

Princess Peach: Showtime Already Has a Clear Sequel Opportunity

If Princess Peach: Showtime! Gets a sequel, then there is already one big idea that could be incorporated into the next game's design.

Princess Peach: Showtime is the Perfect Opportunity to Overhaul Her Super Smash Bros. Moveset

Princess Peach made her Smash Bros. Debut in the GameCube's classic title Super Smash Bros. Melee. Since her introduction to the series, her moveset has remained pretty much the same, drawing inspiration from her appearances from across the Mario series at the time. However, in the years since, Peach has seen more character development as she has gotten more opportunities to be playable, especially in recent titles like Super Mario Bros. Wonder and now Princess Peach: Showtime. Peach's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already felt outdated, and these new titles featuring the princess more than warrant an overhauled Smash Bros. Moveset.

A lot of Peach's moves in the Super Smash Bros. Series are inspired by her appearance in Super Mario Bros. 2, where she is one of the four playable characters. Her Vegetable ability, wherein she plucks a Turnip from the ground that can be thrown as a projectile, references the ability of characters to pluck similar items from the ground in Super Mario Bros. 2, and her ability to float briefly in midair also originates from her Super Mario Bros. 2 appearance. Given how many games Peach has appeared in since this moveset was designed, it feels like a wasted opportunity not to feature some of her more unique skills.

Peach's moveset also includes references to Mario spin-off titles, with her forward smash attacks referencing her sports spin-off appearances by having her swing either a golf club, tennis racket, or frying pan.

Predicting Peach’s New Smash Bros. Moveset Based on Showtime

While some Super Smash Bros. Fans will prefer Peach's classic moveset, some of these attacks could be improved by being swapped out for new skills inspired by Princess Peach: Showtime. One candidate for replacement is Peach's Toad skill, wherein she pulls out Toad to counter an opponent's attack. This skill could be replaced with a similar counter that has Peach transform into her Swordfighter variant and perform a riposte with her sword, similar to the counter characters like Marth and Ike can perform.

Another potential change to Peach's Super Smash Bros. Moveset could be the replacement of Peach Bomber, which has Peach perform a hip thrust towards her opponent, with a transformation into Kung Fu Peach where she then performs a flying kick. The effect of this move would remain largely the same, but it would visually reflect her appearance in Princess Peach: Showtime. Her Vegetable move could also be updated to feature her transformation into Mermaid Peach, allowing her to summon fish to launch as projectiles similar to her Turnips.
