After a successful first game, the Prison Architect concept will be expanded later this year with the release of Prison Architect 2. The game will be taking that classic 2D prison management gameplay to the 3D space for a whole new type of experience. Not only will it be given a facelift, but Double Eleven is also introducing a plethora of brand-new features to make Prison Architect 2 stand apart from the crowd.

One feature that Prison Architect 2 will introduce is new unique inmates that players will have to maneuver around. While the original game's inmates had a ton of character, this new iteration will make them even more lifelike. Not much is known about how this feature will work yet, but if it works as good as it sounds, then players are in for a management experience unlike any other.

Prison Architect 2's Unique Inmates Sound Like a Great Addition to the Formula

Unique Inmates Should Be Drastically Different From Prison Architect's Version

In Introversion's Prison Architect, players had to build their prisons around the needs of their prisoners. They had to ensure they met all the basic needs, that they fulfilled enrichment wants, and that they were prepared to quell any sort of aggression. Additionally, prisoners would constantly attempt to escape, which forced players to try everything they could to keep them locked up. And if that was not hard enough, many prisoners would also come with dynamic reputations that gave them special perks or behaviors, with some significantly changing the flow of any given prison.

Prison Architect 2's inmates will also require players to cater to their needs, as that is a core part of any Dwarf Fortress-like management game. However, this time around, Double Eleven is expanding the inmates even further by making them feel like real people. Now, inmates will form unique relationships that influence their behavior and make decisions based on their wants and needs. Every single choice players make will affect this, with every action having a reaction that they must prepare to work around.

How Unique Inmates Could Change Prison Architect 2

Perhaps the biggest new addition will be the distinct relationships that Prison Architect 2 inmates will form. What that exactly looks like remains to be seen, yet it sounds pretty intriguing. Real people form relationships all the time, with most people gravitating towards similar mindsets. If the inmates work like that, then players may be in for a real challenge. This will likely not only affect how the prisoners treat each other or plan escapes, but it could also form the backbone of how Prison Architect gangs are created in the first place.

Along with that, each prisoner will also have specific traits that can have positive or negative ramifications. These traits not only dictate how that prisoner will act, but also what needs matter to them most. While Prison Architect also gave its inmates random traits, it seems like Double Eleven may have expanded the idea a bit. If anything, coupling that with the new distinct relationships should add a new layer of difficulty to this game. Future updates or DLC for Prison Architect 2 will probably take things even further, as long as it follows in the footsteps of the original game.

Double Eleven has yet to fully show off the way these new inmates will work outside the basic need fulfillment that Prison Architect veterans should be familiar with. But, if these unique inmates work well, then they have the chance to truly shake up the experience for the better. No longer will players simply have to handle the dynamic reputations of the past, they will now have to be aware of practically everything going on within their prison's walls if they want any chance at keeping it from falling apart.
