Sony has been allowed to make a lot of entertainment purchases over the years, specifically around the anime market. I would imagine this one would go off without much of a hitch. Not like the current administration cares at all about corporate consolidation.

I would honestly be pretty shocked if this deal doesn't go through. Although initially the plan may have been to carve out certain aspect of the company for a simpler purchase, it's undeniable that Sony has a large shared interest in the anime industry that Kadokawa would only add to. I actually think that is the bigger aspect to the entire deal. I'm sure FromSoft is part of it, but a smaller part. The confirmation of the letter of interest for the acquisition means Sony may be on the initiative and willing to compromise, or were prepared for a full buyout. Kadakowa is also the target of a hostile takeover from a South Korean company, and some are theorizing Kadakowa may have approached Sony before they sent the letter of interest. Either way it went, it sounds like Sony has interest, and Sony and Kadakowa have a close relationship already, having collaberated and even talked about a buyout in the past. It just seems like a done deal.
